I am a professional pediatrician. Many friends who have just become parents always ask me the same question: Why does their baby have yellow and watery stools? Since so many friends don’t understand and want to know the answer to this question. Therefore, I wrote this article so that more people can read it, learn some knowledge, and gain some nutrition, so that they can take care of their babies more easily. The frequency, properties, color, and odor of a baby's feces are closely related to its age, type of food, and its digestion and absorption functions. It is a mirror that reflects the baby's gastrointestinal function. Parents can adjust the baby's diet by observing the feces. Different diets may cause different stools. Before adding complementary foods, the stools of breastfed babies are yellow or golden yellow, pasty, sometimes slightly watery or green, with a slightly sour taste, and they defecate 3-4 times a day. There are many normal parasitic bacteria in the baby's intestines, such as Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, etc. They help break down food in the intestines, promote absorption, and create an acidic environment in the intestines. Intestinal pathogenic bacteria are most afraid of acidity and it is difficult for them to survive and cause disease in the intestines. After adding complementary foods, the frequency of bowel movements decreased to 1-2 times a day. The feces of artificially fed babies are light yellow or gray and hard in texture. Because the milk powder contains more protein, it has a distinct odor of protein decomposition. It occurs 1-2 times a day and sometimes contains milk lumps. If starchy foods are added at the same time, bowel movements will not be frequent, but the volume will be larger, dark brown in color, and the odor will be stronger. Changes in stool and dietary changes The frequency of bowel movements is higher than usual, the texture is thinner, and contains small yellow oily particles with a sour taste. This is caused by fat indigestion. Adjust the diet: If you are breastfeeding, you can only feed your baby the first half of the milk, and squeeze out the second half of the milk with a higher fat content and discard it. In addition, mothers should drink more water and eat less high-fat or fried foods. The stool is watery, foamy, and tastes sour and pungent like rotten food. This may be caused by indigestion of sugars. Adjust your diet: add less sugar to milk, or stop consuming dairy products, replace rice soup and light soy milk with glucose for flavoring. Why does my baby have yellow and watery stools? If you can rule out catching a cold as a possible problem, then in all likelihood there is a problem with your diet. Parents should feed their children some easily digestible food, because the baby's stomach and intestines are not as good as our normal people's digestive function, so try not to feed the child with difficult-to-digest food, and the child's diet should be regular and quantitative. |
