What to do if your child has poor eyesight

What to do if your child has poor eyesight

Children's eyesight is actually a concern for parents, because many children like to watch TV and play electronic products, which leads to worsening eyesight. In fact, children's poor eyesight can be corrected in time. For example, some eye care exercises and dietary adjustments can be used to help restore vision, and the results are quite good.

What should I do if my child has poor eyesight?

When a child has poor eyesight, parents will first think of myopia. However, sometimes the child only has pseudomyopia, so do not easily fit glasses for your child. You need to go to a professional ophthalmologist for examination to see the degree of your child's myopia. If the child is really myopic, parents should also fit glasses for the child. Some parents think that once the glasses are put on, they can no longer be taken off, so they are reluctant to let their children wear glasses. But in fact, only by wearing glasses can the degree of myopia of children be controlled. If they do not wear glasses, the degree will worsen.

In normal times, we should pay attention to controlling children from spending all day on electronic products. We should set a time limit and keep a distance when watching electronic products to prevent them from developing myopia. At the same time, children should pay attention to their posture when writing or reading, and parents should remind them. Children can eat more carrots and other foods rich in vitamin C, which is good for their eyes. Whether reading or watching TV, they should pay attention to eye rest.

Ways to prevent myopia

1. To cultivate children's correct posture for reading and writing, the distance between their eyes and the book should be kept about 30 cm.

2. When reading or writing, the light should be moderate, not too strong or too dark. The light should come from the front left to prevent the shadow of the hand from obstructing your vision. It is best to use a 40-60W incandescent lamp for lighting, placed in the upper left corner of the desk. This is because the light of incandescent lamps is relatively soft and has good color rendering properties, which makes it easy for the eyes to adapt, thus preventing eye fatigue caused by excessive light or darkness.

3. We should not read for too long. We should take a 15-minute break every 45 minutes or so. We can close our eyes or look into the distance for a few minutes, or do eye exercises to prevent excessive eye fatigue.

4. Do not read books or newspapers with small or blurred handwriting, and do not write too small.

5. Educate children to correct bad eye habits, such as lying on the table, reading or writing with their heads tilted, reading while lying on the bed, reading while eating, reading under strong light or dim street lights or moonlight, as well as reading in a moving car or while walking. These bad habits will cause excessive eye fatigue and reduce the acuity of vision.

6. Prevent excessive use of eyes, which means do not let the internal and external muscles of the eyes become overly fatigued or remain in a state of tension for a long time.

7. Strengthen vision training and do eye exercises more often. You can also use some anti-fatigue eye drops.

8. To prevent television-induced myopia, watch less TV, less computers, and less mobile phones. Children who spend long periods of time drawing, playing the piano, or reading music can also develop myopia.

9. Strengthening physical exercise and improving physical fitness can reduce and slow down the occurrence of myopia, especially outdoor sports. Letting children go to the suburbs where the air is fresh and the view is wide, and look out into the distance to appreciate the mountains, rivers and land of the motherland is one of the best ways to protect their eyes.
