How to let a newborn baby sleep with the light on

Sleep problems are a problem that people often face. Some people suffer from insomnia frequently, while others cannot fall asleep in the dark. These are relatively common phenomena, and most of them are related to psychological factors. With the development of the times, more and more children have insomnia problems. Some parents turn on the lights to help their children sleep. So, what about letting newborns sleep with the lights on? Let’s take a look at the introduction below.

It is especially bad for babies and young children to sleep with the lights on. Any artificial light source will produce a very subtle light pressure. The long-term existence of this light pressure will make people, especially infants and young children, become restless and upset, making it difficult to fall asleep and having poor sleep quality. At the same time, letting infants and young children sleep under the light for a long time will further affect their ocular reticular activation system, shortening their sleep time each time, making their sleep shallower and easier to wake up. If a baby sleeps under the light for a long time, it will be very detrimental to the child's vision development. If the eyes are exposed to light for a long time while sleeping, the light will continue to stimulate the eyes, and the eyeballs and ciliary muscles will not get enough rest. This can easily cause damage to the retina for infants and young children, affecting the normal development of their vision. All physiological functions of the human body run in cycles with the alternation of day and night, which is called "physiological rhythm". It is the biological clock that regulates physiological rhythms, and it is the environmental light that regulates the biological clock. During the day, sufficient light is transmitted into the brain through the visual system, inhibiting the production and release of melatonin by the pineal gland, relieving the inhibition of the cerebral cortex, and making people become awake.

The endocrine system is active, all organs and systems are busy working, and the whole body metabolism is vigorous; at night, the light stimulation to the vision is reduced, the melatonin secreted by the pineal gland increases, thereby inhibiting the nervous and endocrine systems, and people will feel sleepy, especially after falling asleep. Except for a few organs and systems that still maintain a minimum of night shift work, most organs enter a dormant state, and the whole body metabolism is significantly reduced.

What about letting a newborn baby sleep with the light on? This problem is obviously not good, because sleeping with the lights on is not good for the healthy growth of children. Sleeping with the lights on for a long time is likely to cause damage to the children's retina and have a greater impact on the children's eyesight. Therefore, children should turn off the lights when they sleep, and it is best to have a quiet environment.
