Is it a disease if a baby shakes his head while sleeping?

Baby sleep problems are a stubborn problem that troubles many parents, and many parents are worried about their children's sleep problems. Some children will be very excited when they go to bed and cannot fall asleep for a long time. Some children have the habit of staying in bed and sleeping too long, which will also affect the healthy development of their bodies. The phenomenon of babies shaking their heads while sleeping is relatively rare. Many parents don’t quite understand this. Let’s take a look at the introduction below.

In infancy and childhood, abnormal shaking of the head during sleep is mostly caused by calcium deficiency and ear inflammation, while some are normal. Nocturnal head shaking usually begins in infancy and is characterized by abnormal head movements during sleep, sometimes accompanied by whole-body shaking. The cause of this disease is unknown. Some people believe that it is related to psychosocial factors, including intellectual disability, stress, and excitement. And epilepsy, Lennox syndrome, eye diseases, multiple convulsions, body rocking (head shaking movement first appears at 2-3 months, and body rocking appears at 6-10 months), etc.

Causes of baby shaking his head while sleeping

1. The baby’s head becomes itchy because the baby washes his hair too infrequently or does not rinse it thoroughly after washing.

2. The baby wants to get rid of the lanugo.

3. The baby is exercising his neck muscles.

4. It may be itchy due to excessive sweating, or it may be eczema or inflammation in the ear.

Calcium deficiency-induced head shaking: Calcium deficiency causes a decrease in blood calcium, which increases the excitability of the brain and autonomic nerves, leading to muscle contractions, convulsions of hands and feet, sweating of the head and neck, and the wet head shaking back and forth on the pillow, forming pillow baldness.
