What is the cause of the child's abdominal effusion?

The health of children is a matter that concerns every nerve of parents. Any mistake of children, even a small one like a cold, can cause parents to be highly nervous. Therefore, only parents can best understand the care for their children. Children's bodies are fragile and do not have a complete immune system to defend themselves. Ascites in children is a relatively rare problem. Let’s take a look at what happens when there is ascites in children.

Ascites refers to the excessive accumulation of free fluid in the abdominal cavity. Under normal conditions, there is about 5 ml of fluid in the abdominal cavity, which lubricates the intestines. Any pathological condition that causes an increase in the amount of intraperitoneal fluid exceeding 2 ml is called ascites.

Ascites caused by different causes all have a history of each primary disease. For example, if the ascites is caused by heart disease, there is often dyspnea on exertion, lower limb edema after activity, and sleeping in a high pillow or semi-sitting position at night. Ascites caused by liver disease is often accompanied by a history of hepatitis or chronic liver disease.

Ascites due to kidney disease

Chronic nephritis nephrotic type and nephrotic syndrome may cause a large amount of ascites, which is a transudate. Clinically, there are severe edema, massive proteinuria, hypoproteinemia and hypercholesterolemia.

Ascites caused by nutritional disorders

Ascites is usually transudate. The ascites disappeared after hypoproteinemia was corrected.

Malignant lymphoma of peritoneal organs

Lower limb edema and ascites may be chylous ascites. Most patients have varying degrees of fever, weight loss, superficial lymphadenopathy and abdominal masses.

The issue of ascites in children is very complicated because there are many causes of ascites, most of which are internal body lesions that lead to inflammation of the abdominal organs. This will cause excessive water secretion and affect human health. Therefore, when faced with ascites in children, parents should send their children to the hospital for treatment in time.
