How to treat high muscle tension in the limbs of newborns

Many people who suffer from high limb muscle tone feel very uncomfortable because it may affect their normal life, especially the situation of high limb muscle tone in newborns is even worse. Parents of children will be very worried and want to know how to treat high muscle tone in the limbs. Now I will introduce to you some information on how to treat high muscle tone in the limbs. I hope it will be helpful to everyone.

Limb muscle tone is the basis for maintaining various postures and normal movements of the body, and manifests itself in various forms. When a person lies down to rest, the tension in the muscles of various parts of the body is called resting muscle tension. When the body stands, although there is no obvious muscle contraction, the front and back muscles of the body also maintain a certain tension to maintain the standing posture and body stability, which is called postural muscle tension. The tension of muscles during exercise is called motor muscle tension, which is an important factor in ensuring continuous and smooth muscle movement (without tremors, twitches, or spasms). High muscle tone is manifested as the lower limbs being extended, adducted, crossed, and scissor-shaped. The main types are: 1. Primary dystonia: This type of patient does not have clear structural abnormalities of the central nervous system, and manifests as systemic abnormalities such as idiopathic torsion spasm or focal abnormalities such as writer's cramp, blepharospasm and spasmodic torticollis. Primary dystonia is the most common. 2. Secondary dystonia: It is caused by abnormal brain metabolism and structure. The most commonly affected areas are the basal ganglia putamen, globus pallidus and posterior or medial nucleus of the thalamus. 3. Dystonia variant: manifested as dystonia combined with other changes, including dopa-responsive dystonia and myoclonic dystonia. 4. Dystonia associated with genetic degenerative diseases: Dystonia is caused by brain degenerative diseases, such as dystonia associated with patients with Wilson's disease.

High muscle tone in the limbs is very harmful to patients. Children are more irritable, startled by sounds, cry continuously, have difficulty falling asleep, have difficulty inserting their arms into sleeves when dressing, have difficulty separating their legs when changing diapers, and have difficulty opening their fists when bathing. When the lower limbs just touch the bathtub or the water surface, the child's whole body immediately becomes stiff. Children with high muscle tone have their lower limbs extended, adducted and crossed, forming a scissor shape.

The general methods for treating high muscle tension in the limbs are: 1. Massage, but this type of massage requires a high level of professionalism. In addition, acupuncture, physical therapy, electrotherapy, hydrotherapy, orthopedic surgery, etc. also have certain therapeutic effects; 2. Surgical treatment of high muscle tension. 3. Cross correction: correct the disorder caused by opposite nerve innervation, establish the correct innervation pathway, thereby improving the nerve innervation function and coordinating the activities of nerves, muscles and joints.

Now we know that the treatment for high muscle tone in the limbs of newborns is generally massage, and then surgery or something like that. So when you find that your child has high muscle tone in the limbs, you need timely and active treatment. Don’t worry too much. Many patients have improved after treatment. I wish you all good health.
