Height of a two-year-old boy

Height of a two-year-old boy

Parents will pay close attention to their children's height, especially boys. Boys who are two years old are in a developmental and growth stage. At this time, their height needs to be strictly measured. If you find that your child is generally shorter than his peers, you need to pay attention, as this is very likely related to his own nutrition.

1. Height is related to genetics

According to research, 75% of a person's final height is determined by genetic factors. That is to say, in general, if parents are tall, their children will also be tall; if parents are short, their children will also be short. However, parents' height is not the only factor that affects their children's height. External factors, namely environmental conditions, also have an impact on height that cannot be ignored. External factors mainly refer to nutrition, living habits, physical exercise and whether one is ill.

2. Height is related to nutrition

In a sense, height is "built up" of nutrients (especially protein). There are 50,000 to 100,000 kinds of proteins that make up the human body, and the eight essential amino acids that make up these proteins must be supplied by food. If food can provide sufficient amounts of the eight essential amino acids, it can accelerate protein synthesis and help the growth and development of tissues and organs throughout the body, especially the growth and development of bones and cartilage. Bones, especially the lower limbs and spine, have the most active metabolism during the period of physical development and require adequate nutrition supply.

3. Height is related to sleep

When biologists studied the secretion patterns of endocrine glands, they found that for children and teenagers, good sleep will help them grow taller. The growth of height depends on the continuous growth of the epiphysis, and the growth of the epiphysis is controlled by the endocrine glands. The endocrine hormones that control height mainly include growth hormone, luteinizing hormone and sex hormones secreted by the pituitary gland, among which growth hormone has the most significant effect.

The secretion of growth hormone has its obvious regularity, that is, it is secreted less during the day and more at night when sleeping. Researchers have found that after children fall into deep sleep for one hour, the secretion of growth hormone is 5 to 7 times more than that during the day. The secretion of sex hormones and luteinizing hormone is also very strong during deep sleep, which can thicken bones and strengthen bone quality. Obviously, this is very beneficial to children's height growth.

4. Height is related to physical exercise

According to a survey, one year of physical exercise can make boys grow 1 to 2 centimeters taller than their peers who do not exercise, and girls grow 2 to 3 centimeters taller. Primary school students who exercise regularly are about 5 cm taller than those who do not exercise. Physical exercise can help you grow taller because, first, it can promote the secretion of growth hormone; second, it strengthens the blood supply to bone cells, which is beneficial to improving the proliferation capacity of epiphyseal cartilage; third, it has a good stimulating effect on the proliferation of epiphyseal cartilage. According to research, the secretion of growth hormone increases significantly after exercise. At the same time, exercise will also exercise muscles and bones, making them stronger. Therefore, researchers at home and abroad unanimously agree that exercise helps to grow taller.
