The severity of constipation in one-month-old babies

Infant constipation generally refers to a decrease in the number of daily bowel movements, or even the absence of normal bowel movements for 2-3 days or more than 3 days. The frequency of bowel movements of a one-month-old baby is an important basis for determining whether the baby is constipated. In fact, the reason for infant constipation is the lack of carbohydrates, fats or insufficient water intake in the usual diet.

Infant constipation generally refers to the phenomenon that the baby has fewer bowel movements than usual, or even does not have a bowel movement for 2-3 days or more. However, when determining whether a baby is constipated, the nature of the stool is more important than the frequency. Sometimes the frequency of bowel movements is normal, but the stool is dry and hard, not easy to pass, and the amount is small and granular, which also belongs to constipation. The causes of infant constipation are mostly due to lack of carbohydrates, fat or water intake in the diet, or too little crude fiber such as vegetables and fruits. It is more common in those who are formula-fed. Sometimes the formula milk preparation method is unreasonable, or too much milk powder is added, or too little water is added, which can cause the formula milk to be too concentrated and cause constipation in infants. In a small number of infants, constipation may be caused by diseases such as congenital megacolon, anal fissure, and anal atresia. They should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time.

For children with constipation, the following simple methods can be used: 1. Massage: Put the four fingers of your right hand together, and gently massage the child's navel in a clockwise direction. This not only helps with bowel movements but also aids digestion. 2. Soap bar laxative method: Use soap to cut into a soap bar as thick as a pencil and more than 3 cm long. Moisten it with water and insert it into the baby's anus. It can stimulate the intestinal wall and cause defecation. 3. Salted radish strips laxative method: Cut radish strips into pencil-thick strips, soak them in salt water and insert them into the anus to promote defecation. 4. Suppository: Injecting a suppository into the child's anus can stimulate the intestinal wall and induce defecation. It is recommended that this method be used less frequently.

Constipation in infants should not be ignored. If infant constipation is not treated carefully, it can lead to serious consequences. It may be caused by diseases such as Hirschsprung's disease, anal atresia, anal fissure, etc. If the baby is not taken to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time, it will seriously affect the baby's physical and mental health. Therefore, expectant mothers should reasonably match their baby's diet.
