How to deal with newborn spit-up

We know that for young mothers who are breastfeeding for the first time, they do not understand many issues and details about feeding their children, so many problems are likely to occur during the process, such as the child spitting up milk, spitting up milk, or being unwilling to eat milk. Among them, the most common problem is spitting up milk curds. So why do these problems of spitting up milk and spitting up milk curds occur, and how do we deal with them? The following are some references for mothers.

After feeding, because the enlarged stomach creates pressure, and the sphincter contraction strength is not strong enough to prevent the food from the stomach from flowing back, the baby often vomits or regurgitates milk. Generally, it can be improved from the following three aspects.

1. Burp your baby.

When the baby finishes drinking milk, since the lower part of the stomach is filled with milk and the upper part is filled with air, it will cause stomach pressure, resulting in milk regurgitation and vomiting. Therefore, parents should burp their baby in time to expel the gas. As long as the pressure in the stomach is reduced, the incidence and frequency of vomiting and regurgitation of milk can naturally be reduced. If it is difficult to burp the baby, then parents should hold the baby upright and let the baby lie on their shoulders for at least 30 minutes, then raise the pillow and let the baby lie on the right side. This can effectively increase the speed of stomach emptying.

2. Change the way milk powder is prepared

Adding cereal to your baby's regular milk or making the milk a little thicker will make reflux less likely to occur. However, milk that is too thick can easily cause gastrointestinal obstruction or diarrhea, which can also make the baby feel uncomfortable, so parents should also pay attention.

3. Drug treatment

If there is severe vomiting or regurgitation, you should ask your doctor to prescribe some medication to stimulate gastrointestinal motility to improve the regurgitation. However, medication is usually considered as a last resort, and other solutions should be considered as the main approach.

It should be said that, for the problem of milk clots spitting up in newborns, generally there is no need to use medication to treat it, because it is just a food reflux phenomenon caused by the imperfect stomach function of the newborn. The focus is still on the posture and method of feeding, and the probability of this kind of milk clots spitting up will become less and less. Of course, if the situation is more serious, you still need to consult a doctor for treatment.
