Child sweating while sleeping

Child sweating while sleeping

Generally, when children are sleeping, parents will carefully observe their sleeping mentality. First, they think the child’s sleeping posture is very cute and adorable. Second, it is to rule out whether the child has any abnormal reactions during the sleeping process. Therefore, some parents found that their children sweat after falling asleep while taking care of them. So what is the reason for children sweating after falling asleep?

Causes of sweating while sleeping

Physiological reasons

If it is physiological sweating, it is a common physiological phenomenon and will decrease as the child grows up, so there is no need to worry too much.

1. Constitution

Babies have a relatively active metabolism and are very active. They cannot stop even when lying in bed, so their heads will sweat when they sleep. Parents often judge the appropriate temperature for their children based on their own feelings and like to cover their children with very thick quilts. Children have a more active metabolism and their brain nervous system is immature. If they feel very hot under the covers, they can only regulate their body temperature by sweating to evaporate the heat.

2. Nursing

When the weather is not very cold, parents like to dress their children in many clothes, causing them to sweat while sleeping. Some children are active by nature and exercise a lot during the day, which generates too much heat. The heat cannot be completely eliminated through sweating and can only accumulate in the body. The body temperature can rise to 38 degrees Celsius at night. When sleeping, the body loses less heat and the sympathetic nerves become sluggish. The body can only release heat by sweating to maintain normal body temperature.

3. Diet

Many parents worry that their children are malnourished, so they try to find ways to supplement their children's nutrition. Some parents let their children drink milk before going to bed. After the children fall asleep, their bodies generate a lot of heat, which can only be dissipated through sweating.

Pathological causes

Not all types of sweating are normal. Sweating may also be due to pathological factors and is a sign of a disease. The following situations require attention.

1. Rickets

Rickets is a common disease that causes children to sweat while sleeping. Not only do children sweat while sleeping, but they also tend to cry and throw tantrums. Sweating on the forehead makes children feel itchy, and they will unconsciously turn their heads, which may cause their hair to be rubbed off. Children with rickets often have a square head shape, a protruding forehead, and delayed tooth eruption. If this happens, be sure to seek medical attention promptly and give your child vitamin D and calcium supplements to prevent the condition from worsening.

2. Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is also a cause of pathological hyperhidrosis. Its characteristics are not only sweating when falling asleep, but also sweating in the early morning before dawn. The child will also become emaciated and have loss of appetite. If treated in time, the disease can be cured; if the treatment opportunity is missed, the difficulty of treatment will be greatly increased, and it may even worsen into tuberculous pleurisy. Therefore, if you find that your child sweats a lot at night and in the second half of the night, you need to go to the hospital for examination to determine the cause so that you can receive treatment as soon as possible.

3. Hypoglycemia

This situation is more likely to occur in the hot summer, when children sweat a lot, have a poor appetite at night, and feel weak in the morning. The main symptoms are pale face, cold sweat, cold limbs, etc.

4. Drug abuse and sweating

Children who are weak and catch colds frequently are more likely to experience this condition. Some parents will let their children take antibiotics when they have a cold, which will cause the children to become weaker, affect their physical constitution, and make them sweat easily when sleeping. When this happens, the condition generally improves after stopping antibiotics for ten days. If your child often sweats a lot, you can feed him medicated food, such as lily porridge; you can also take Chinese patent medicine, such as Xuhanting Granules, to relieve sweating. If the spontaneous sweating is severe and self-treatment is ineffective, you should ask a Chinese medicine practitioner to take your child's pulse and prescribe the right medicine.
