Several treatment methods for amblyopia in children

Children's physical health is something that parents are very concerned about. If a child has some situation, parents will definitely be very worried and don't know how to deal with it. In fact, we recommend that parents learn more about common children's diseases so that they can effectively help children prevent and treat diseases. Amblyopia is very harmful to children. Below we introduce several treatments for amblyopia in children.

1. Needle and bead threading training: After the child wears corrective glasses, use red thread to thread a needle or beads, threading 200-300 needles or 200-300 beads each time, to encourage the child to use his near vision more to improve vision.

2. Red light flickering stimulation method: After the child wears corrective glasses, he or she uses the amblyopic eye to look at the flickering red light through the observation hole for 10-15 minutes each time, twice a day.

3. Treatment for young children: To check the vision of young children, you can use a children's eye chart, or use toys of different sizes to estimate the vision of young children at different distances. The most accurate and reliable test is the visual evoked potential method. If a child aged 1-2 years is found to have amblyopia in one eye, he or she can apply 1% atropine ointment to the healthy eye under the guidance of a doctor once a day for three consecutive weeks followed by a week's rest as a course of treatment. After every two courses of treatment, the patient will be examined and a decision will be made as to whether to continue treatment. The above treatment can be continued until the child is able to cooperate with pupil dilation and eye examination and wear glasses. The purpose of using atropine ointment for treatment is to cause temporary blurred vision in the healthy eye, forcing the amblyopic eye to look at external objects first and improve vision.

4. Covering therapy: After the child wears corrective glasses, under the guidance of the doctor, use an eye patch made of plastic or black cloth to completely cover the healthy eye, forcing the amblyopic eye to see objects, so that the amblyopic eye can be exercised and the vision can be improved. The amount of days the healthy eye should be covered and the amount of days left uncovered, or the ratio of alternating covering of the eyes, should be flexibly controlled based on the child's vision and age. The healthy eye must be covered thoroughly, and the child should not be allowed to peek with the healthy eye. Patching therapy must be carried out with perseverance and cannot be interrupted, otherwise it will significantly affect the efficacy. It is important to note that every 4 weeks of occlusion therapy, the vision of both eyes must be checked to see if the vision of the amblyopic eye has improved and if the vision of the covered eye has deteriorated. If the vision of the covered eye does not deteriorate, you can continue to patch it. If the vision of the covered eye deteriorates, you should stop patching for a few days and continue patching treatment after the vision of the covered eye recovers.

5. Optical drug suppression therapy: This method is more complicated to use and must be performed under the guidance of a doctor. First, the pupils of both eyes are dilated for an eye test to fully correct the refractive power. Then the refractive power of both eyes is adjusted according to the visual acuity of the amblyopic eye before glasses are fitted. Then, drop 1% atropine solution into the healthy eye once a day to force the amblyopic eye to look far or near, so as to exercise the amblyopic eye and continuously improve its vision.

In the above article, we introduced a disease that children are prone to, that is, amblyopia. We know that amblyopia can cause many kinds of troubles to children, so we must help children treat this disease in time. The above article introduces several treatment methods for amblyopia in children in detail.
