Tips for children's eye protection

Eyes are the windows to the soul, and eye protection must be comprehensive. Now many people do not pay attention to this, which leads to serious damage to the eyes. Frequent excessive use of eyes can easily cause myopia, so the eyes must be given proper rest every day. What are the secrets of children's eye protection? This is also something that many parents do not understand well. The following is a detailed introduction so that parents know how to do it well.

Tips for children's eye protection:

1. Protect your eyes from the sun

10 am to 3 pm is the time when the sun is strongest in the day. Wang Zheng, deputy chief physician of the Department of Ophthalmology at Beijing Hospital, told reporters that excessive ultraviolet rays can cause corneal damage, cause macular degeneration and aggravate cataracts. Zhou Mengchao, chief ophthalmologist at Taipei Mackay Memorial Hospital, reminds people to wear sunglasses when going out to protect their eyes from the sun. The best lenses are gray, brown, and brown, which have the strongest UV protection; green is the second best; and blue, red, and pink are the worst. Darker lenses are not necessarily better. If the lenses do not have UV protection, dark lenses will dilate your pupils, allowing more UV rays to enter your eyes.

2. Alternate hot and cold eye compresses

Dr. Tsai Ching-yao, director of the ophthalmology department at Taipei City United Hospital's Yang-Ming branch, recommends spending 5 to 10 minutes each morning and evening applying warm compresses to the eyes to promote blood circulation around the eyes and help the eyes relax. If your eyes show symptoms such as swelling, dryness, itching, fatigue, etc., you can apply cold compress first and then hot compress. Chu Renyuan, director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission's Key Laboratory of Myopia and professor of ophthalmology at the Shanghai Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital of Fudan University, added that this method of alternating hot and cold water can also be used when taking a bath. Wang Zheng said that when there is acute inflammation of the eyes, such as sty, red and swollen eyelids, or eye trauma, cold compresses can relieve the symptoms; hot compresses are more suitable for people with dry eyes, and generally applying a warm towel to the eyelids for 10 to 15 minutes can improve the condition. Stretch the outer corner of the eye with one hand to flatten the eyelid, and massage the root of the eyelashes with the other hand to relieve the discomfort of dry eyes.

3. Blink 300 times a day

Under normal circumstances, people aged 20 to 40 blink about 20 times per minute, but when they are highly concentrated, such as when looking at a computer or driving, the number of blinks will drop to 4 to 5 times per minute. Wang Zheng said that every time you blink, a new tear film will form on the surface of the eye. If you blink less frequently, the tear film will be insufficient, causing your eyes to become dry and sore. In addition, the tear film has the function of cleaning and protecting the ocular surface. If you blink less, it can easily lead to corneal diseases. Generally speaking, we blink at least 300 times a day. In addition to blinking consciously, turning on a humidifier or placing a glass of water on the table can also make your eyes feel comfortable.

By understanding the secrets of children's eye protection, parents should follow the above methods to protect their children. Children's eye protection should also be long-term, and children should eat more foods that improve eyesight. In this way, eye protection can be comprehensive. At the same time, do not let children rub their eyes excessively. This is also something to pay attention to.
