What are childhood anxiety disorders?

In life, we often see some children who often show emotional instability, irritability, noise, timidity, and fear of going to kindergarten or unfamiliar environments; some children who have reached school age show fear of school: listless, even pestering their mothers not to go to school, etc. In fact, these are all manifestations of childhood anxiety. So what is childhood anxiety?

What are childhood anxiety disorders? Children's anxiety disorders are mainly related to psychosocial and genetic factors. Children with this disorder are often introverted and emotionally unstable. When they encounter stressful situations at home or school, they become anxious and exhibit avoidant or attachment behaviors. Some children have a history of acute shock before the onset of the disease, such as sudden separation from their parents, death of relatives, unfortunate accidents, etc. If the parents suffer from anxiety disorders, the child's anxiety may persist and become chronic anxiety. The high incidence rate in families and the high comorbidity rate among twins suggest that anxiety disorders are related to genetics.

What to do about children’s anxiety? 1. Don’t set too high expectations for your children: It is understandable that parents want their children to succeed, but it should be noted that the children have invested a lot in preparing for the exam. Even if they don’t get the ideal results, as long as they try their best, that’s enough. Never nag, ridicule, or ignore your children with a stern face. This will make them feel depressed or they will resist out of rebelliousness, which will increase their anxiety.

2. Create a good family environment: The foundation of a child's overall quality is the subtle influence of being around his parents from an early age. If you want to raise your child to be confident, open-minded, lively and cheerful, the family environment must be clean, simple, organized and bright; family members must be harmonious, democratic, respectful and helpful to each other.

3. Actively guide and enhance the attractiveness of kindergarten: Before children enter kindergarten, they should be made aware that kindergarten is an interesting place with many friends playing games together. The teachers will also do many meaningful activities with everyone and they can learn skills. This will leave a good impression on the children and generate yearning and expectations for kindergarten.

4. Reduce the intensity of parent-child attachment and form a new attachment relationship: Because children regard their parents as their safe haven and rely on their parents to complete all things, they will experience separation anxiety when their parents leave. Therefore, reducing the intensity of parent-child attachment is the first thing to consider. Separation anxiety is mainly caused by the child losing the person he is attached to and feeling insecure. In order to prevent children from feeling anxious and help them adapt to the absence of their parents, it is necessary to help them establish a new attachment relationship with their teachers. Parents should praise the teachers for being kind and pretty; tell the children that the teachers can tell many stories, sing songs, and play games with them; when sending the children to kindergarten and picking them up, they can deliberately communicate with the teachers in a friendly manner in front of the children, so that the children will feel that the teachers are good friends of their parents.
