What to do if your baby chokes on milk

Parents must be very scared when their baby chokes on milk, because we know that when a baby chokes on milk, it will not only make the baby feel uncomfortable but may also affect the baby's breathing. If we don't handle it well, it may even threaten the baby's life. Therefore, we must master the method to deal with babies choking on milk. Below we will tell you what to do if a baby chokes on milk.

The opening of the esophagus and the opening of the trachea are connected in the throat. The most feared thing about spitting up milk is that the milk flows back from the esophagus to the throat and accidentally enters the trachea at the moment of inhalation, which is the so-called choking. If the amount is large, it will cause tracheal obstruction, inability to breathe, and endanger life; if the amount is small, it will be directly inhaled deep into the lungs and cause aspiration pneumonia.

Methods/Steps

1. When your baby is feeding, don't tease him, let him concentrate on eating.

2 When the baby is breastfeeding, the mother should use her middle finger or index finger to press the base of the nipple to prevent the baby's nostrils from being blocked, reduce the flow of milk, and control the baby's breastfeeding speed.

3 When the baby has just fed three or four times, pull out the nipple, pause for a while and then feed again.

4 Pay attention to the baby's feeding posture. Don't let him feed with his head tilted back; make him feed with his head lowered. When the adult is sitting, the body should lean back and the baby's mouth should be downward or parallel.

5. Don’t feed your baby too much. After feeding, let your baby lie on your shoulder and gently pat his back a few times to help him burp. To prevent milk from spilling.

In the above article, we introduced a situation that may occur when the baby is breastfeeding, that is, the baby choking while breastfeeding. In this case, parents do not need to be too nervous, and can use the methods introduced above to deal with it.
