What causes children to stutter?

The arrival of a child is accompanied by a new growth history. They cry and make noises when they first come into the world, knowing nothing about the world. Later, they start to speak, learn to walk and run, and after experiencing the world, they are finally able to break away from the protection of their parents and stand on their own. This is just everyone’s growth history and a microcosm of everyone. However, there are occasional exceptions in this growth history. Some children stutter while learning to speak.

Some children stutter, which causes them to take a long time to speak a sentence and they can't pronounce it clearly. This is something that worries their parents. In the eyes of parents, it is such a happy thing for their children to grow up like normal people. Why do children stutter? Let's take a look at the reasons below.

It is unclear. It may be due to genetic factors, anxiety and stress (such as family life events), or neurological dysfunction due to physical illness, or stuttering due to imitation. Some people also believe that it is related to left-handedness, the dominant side of the brain. Some people believe that the abnormal EEG of patients who stutter may be related to the increased activity of the limbic system-reticular formation complex.

Factors associated with stuttering in children

1. Genetic factors: The incidence of stuttering in the family can reach 36% to 55%. Some people think it is related to genetic factors and may be a single gene inheritance. Some people also found that left-handedness is more common among stuttering patients and their relatives. It is believed that stuttering is related to the dominant side of the brain.

2 Physical factors: Many children have been exposed to harmful factors during the perinatal period or infancy, such as pregnancy toxemia, bleeding or physical diseases in the fetal period, or some infectious diseases during the development process, which weakened the nervous system and affected the speech function, leading to stuttering.

3. Psychological factors: Children's stuttering often occurs after acute or prolonged psychological trauma. Therefore, many theories believe that psychological factors may be an important cause of stuttering.

4 Other factors: Some preschool children suffer from stuttering due to imitation. Some data, based on the electroencephalogram, electromyogram of the articulatory muscles and the clinical efficacy of haloperidol, infer that stuttering may be related to factors such as increased activity of the limbic system and reticular formation complex, incoordination of articulatory muscle function and biochemical disorders in the basal ganglia. However, further clinical verification is needed.

If a child stutters, parents should be patient and guide him to correct it. If it is a hereditary stutter, then it is better to go to the hospital for a check-up. If it is mental, then he should be guided out of the shadow and correct the stuttering. As long as it is corrected patiently, I believe it can be cured. Parents should be patient and accompany their children.
