What to do if a 5-year-old girl has vulvar itching

Under normal circumstances, the vaginal area of a five-year-old girl should be clean and free of any disease. However, if parents do not change their child's underwear and clean her private parts in time, it is very likely that the girl's vulva will become itchy. This may be caused by bacterial infection of the vulva, urinary tract infection, or vaginal infection by the mother. So what should a five-year-old girl do if her vulva is itchy?

Considering it is vulvitis, it is recommended to keep the perineum clean, dry and ventilated, change cotton underwear frequently, and it is recommended to wear loose and fit underwear. Potassium permanganate solution can be used to clean the vulva or take a sitz bath to reduce local friction. Antibiotics should be used if necessary.

It may be caused by vaginitis in young children. Girls have not yet fully developed ovarian function, lack of estrogen in the body, low resistance of vulva and vagina. In addition, the opening of the hymen of girls is relatively large and close to the anus, which is easily contaminated and causes inflammation. It is recommended to go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time. Painful urination cannot be ruled out as caused by urinary tract infection.

This situation in children is most likely vulvovaginitis in young girls, which is mainly due to the thin vaginal mucosa, vulvovaginitis in infants and young children, and low resistance of the vaginal epithelium. The vagina is close to the anus and is extremely susceptible to bacterial infection, making vulvovaginitis prone to occur. It is common in girls under 5 years old. The pathogen can be transmitted through the clothing, bathtub, hands, etc. of sick mothers, childcare workers or kindergarten children.

The main treatment is to keep the vulva dry and clean. If there is secretion, it is necessary to check what kind of bacteria, fungi, etc. are infected and treat it accordingly.

Vulvar itching may be caused by bacterial infection of vaginitis. It is recommended that you go to the hospital for a secretion examination to determine what bacteria caused the infection and receive symptomatic treatment.

You can take oral antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs as prescribed by the doctor, and the vulva can be cleaned with 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution. Severe inflammation can affect fertility.
