Children often have low-grade fever

Children often have low-grade fever

If a child often has a low-grade fever and parents do not handle it properly, it may cause permanent damage to the baby's health. Therefore, many parents will take their children to a medical institution for a physical examination as soon as possible when they find that their children often have a fever to find out what causes the baby's frequent fever. Now I will tell you what you should do if your baby often has a fever. Parents, please learn about it.

A low-grade fever refers to a body temperature between 37.3℃ and 38℃. Long-term low-grade fever refers to a fever that lasts for more than two weeks, excluding intermittent fever.

1. What should I do if my one-year-old baby has a low-grade fever?

A variety of illnesses can cause a low-grade fever. Fever is a symptom. Diseases such as rheumatism, tuberculosis, chronic inflammation, and low immunity can cause persistent low fever. Long-term psychological stress and emotional instability can also cause disorders in the body temperature center, resulting in persistent low fever of unknown cause. A problem with any system in the body can cause a persistent low-grade fever. It is difficult to find out the cause of low-grade fever through routine tests such as blood, urine, and stool. Some low-grade fevers caused by bacterial infections can only be detected through bacterial culture.

Do not abuse medicine for unexplained low-grade fever. Fever is one of the body's responses to disease. Taking antipyretics for patients with low fever is not conducive to the treatment of the disease. Indiscriminate use of antipyretics may also lead to a decrease in white blood cells and aplastic anemia. Antipyretics should only be considered when the body temperature is above 38°C.

2. What should I do if my child always has a low-grade fever?

If you have a fever, if your body temperature exceeds 38.5 degrees, you need to take antipyretics. If it does not exceed, you can use the following physical methods to reduce fever:

1. Apply a cold towel to your forehead. After the towel becomes warm, soak it in cold water and apply it again. Using a cold water bag or ice pack is more effective than applying a cold towel to the forehead.

2. Wipe the whole body with warm water or take a bath: Undress the baby, rub the whole body with a towel in warm water (about 37℃) or take a bath. This can dilate the blood vessels in the baby's skin and dissipate body qi; in addition, when water vapor evaporates from the body surface, it will also absorb body heat. Take a bath for about 10 to 15 minutes each time, about once every 4 to 6 hours.

3. Warm alcohol bath: For alcohol bath, mix 70% alcohol with 1/1 tap water, or 75% alcohol with 1/2 water, or you can mix white wine with 1/4 water, and put them in a small bowl. Keep doors and windows closed during sponge bath, dip gauze or a soft towel in the alcohol in the bowl, and wipe the child's palms, soles, armpits, inner sides of upper arms, chest and thighs. The temperature of the diluted water should be about 37-40℃, then wipe the limbs and back; if you wipe directly with alcohol, the baby will feel very cold, very uncomfortable, and even convulse. You can repeat it a second time, and repeat it about three times, and the temperature inside and outside the body will drop rapidly. As it reduces fever quickly, it is suitable for children over 1 year old and for high fevers above 40℃ which are difficult to reduce.

4. Wipe with a cool towel: Use a slightly cool towel (about 25 degrees) to wipe your forehead and face.

5. Drink more water: It helps sweating. In addition, water has the function of regulating temperature, which can lower body temperature and replenish water lost in the body.

6. Add or remove clothes appropriately: If the baby's hands and feet are cold, it means that the baby's body temperature may rise rapidly, and the baby's hands and feet need to be warmed up; if the limbs and hands and feet are warm and the whole body is sweating, it means that heat needs to be dissipated, so you can wear fewer clothes.
