Childhood Obesity

Childhood Obesity

Speaking of obesity, many friends think of middle-aged and elderly people. In fact, obesity is not age-specific. Although there are more obese middle-aged people, people of all ages are likely to become obese. With the improvement of family living conditions, many parents usually let their children eat a lot of nutritional supplements, or do not pay attention to nutritional control during pregnancy, which will lead to the problem of childhood obesity.

In fact, the harm of childhood obesity is much more serious than that of adult obesity, because children's bodies are not fully developed. If they are too obese, it will directly affect their development. Therefore, I hope that parents and friends can understand the causes of childhood obesity and take preventive measures.

Overnutrition

Excess nutrition causes calorie intake to exceed consumption, and the excess fat is stored in the body in the form of triglycerides, causing obesity. Improper feeding of babies, such as feeding them immediately every time they cry, will form a habit over time, and the baby will want to find something to eat whenever they encounter setbacks, which can easily lead to obesity. Feeding babies with high-calorie solid foods too early will cause them to gain weight too quickly and develop obesity. Overnutrition in late pregnancy can all be causes of obesity after birth.

Psychological factors

Psychological factors play an important role in the occurrence and development of obesity. Emotional trauma or parental divorce, death of a father or a mother, abuse, spoiling, etc. can induce timidity, fear, and loneliness, resulting in asociality, inactivity, or eating for self-entertainment, leading to obesity.

Lack of exercise

Once childhood obesity develops, they become reluctant to move around due to limited mobility, which leads to weight gain, creating a vicious cycle[2]. Certain diseases such as paralysis, primary myopathy or severe mental retardation lead to lack of activity, reduced energy consumption and obesity.

Genetic factors

Obesity has a certain familial genetic tendency. If both parents are obese, 70% to 80% of their offspring will be obese; if one of the parents is obese, 40% to 50% of their offspring will be obese; if both parents are not obese, nearly 1% of their offspring will be obese; the disease rate is also very high in monozygotic twins.

Central regulatory factors

The normal human body has a central energy balance regulation function that controls body weight to be relatively stable. However, the patient with this disease loses the balance of regulation function, which causes the body to take in too much, exceeding demand, and causing obesity.

After knowing the factors that cause childhood obesity, I hope that all parents will do a good job in preventing childhood obesity for their children, especially for pregnant women. In order to avoid children being born with obesity, they need to control the absorption of nutrients in normal times and be careful not to gain weight too quickly, otherwise it will easily lead to obesity.
