How old are the children?

June 1st of every year is designated as Children's Day. The establishment of Children's Day is to make everyone pay attention to the protection of children. Nowadays, many young parents in society have no awareness of protecting children. They may give birth to children due to accidental pregnancy but still don't want them, so many people choose to abandon the children. This seriously affects the legitimate rights and interests of children. Every child should be protected by law.

The country has a set of laws to protect children, but everyone’s legal awareness is relatively weak, resulting in the infringement of the legal rights and interests of many children. Nowadays, most children do not celebrate Children's Day when they reach junior high school. So, what is the age limit for children?

In ancient times, children referred to minors other than infants. The modern meaning is more complicated. The definition given in the fifth edition of the Modern Chinese Dictionary is: a younger minor. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child stipulates that the age limit is 0-18 years old. China's Law on the Protection of Minors and other laws stipulate that the age limit is 0-18 years old. The medical community uses children aged 0 to 14 as the research subjects of pediatrics. The members of China's Young Pioneers are under 14 years old, and the age for joining the Communist Youth League is over 14 years old.

Under normal genetic conditions, the surrounding environment and education play a decisive role in the mental and psychological development of children. It can develop the advantages in temperament and overcome the weaknesses. The environmental influences after birth come from the influence of family, childcare institutions, schools and society. The family is the environment that children are most closely exposed to from birth to adolescence, and has the greatest impact on their psychological development. Harmonious family relationships, good moral character of parents, a stable environment full of love and a rich and fulfilling life enable children to have a healthy psychology. Parents are their children’s first teachers and role models.

Childhood is the most critical time in a person's growth. Generally, a person's values and world outlook are formed in childhood. Therefore, a mentally healthy child needs to enjoy formal education and care from family and society in an early age, so as to ensure that the child grows up healthy and strong.
