What should I do if children have myopia?

There are many reasons for myopia, including congenital myopia and acquired myopia caused by watching TV frequently, playing games on the computer or reading and writing with incorrect posture. If you are myopic, you have to wear glasses or contact lenses. More and more people are myopic, including middle-aged and elderly people, teenagers, and even children. What should we do if children are myopic? Children's myopia makes parents worry.

There are many dangers of myopia in children, which will have a negative impact on children's life and study. Not only will it cause children's academic performance to decline, affect their physical and mental health, but it may even lead to a series of complications, affecting their bright future. If the situation is serious, it may even be passed on to the next generation.

If young students do not pay attention to eye hygiene, read and write for too long, have incorrect posture, keep their eyes too close to the book, or the light is too dim, it will cause excessive eye fatigue and excessive tension in the eye muscles, making the ciliary muscles unable to stretch and contract flexibly, resulting in functional myopia that makes it difficult to see far away. This type of myopia is more common among primary and secondary school students. Because the onset time is short, the distance vision fluctuates greatly and is sometimes good and sometimes bad, it is easy to be ignored. Myopia at this stage is often called pseudomyopia. If you have pseudomyopia and do not pay attention to it, do not take preventive measures, and still often read and study at close range for a long time, in addition to causing tension in the eye muscles, the eyeball will gradually become longer, and myopia will develop from pseudomyopia to true myopia.

Because the pseudomyopia stage is caused by excessive tension in the intraocular muscles, which leads to relaxation of the ciliary muscles, by persisting in doing eye exercises and other measures to recover from visual fatigue and relieve the tension in the intraocular muscles, vision can easily return to normal. Therefore, it is not recommended to wear glasses for correction during the pseudomyopia stage in order to prevent it from developing into true myopia.

If an ophthalmologist diagnoses you with true myopia, you should get a pair of suitable glasses after dilation and refraction. But don't think that everything will be fine after getting glasses. You still need to pay attention to eye hygiene. It is inappropriate for students to borrow glasses from each other, because wearing inappropriate glasses will increase the burden on the eyes, which may eventually cause myopia to worsen rapidly and even develop into malignant progressive myopia.

Because children's eyes are still in the development stage, the refractive power will continue to change, so they should go to the hospital for regular check-ups after wearing glasses. Generally, the vision should be checked once every 1-2 months, and they should go to the hospital for dilation and eye examination once a year, and then get new glasses according to the changed refractive power.

Myopia is relatively difficult to correct and treat. On the one hand, it may be because it is discovered late, or because the child has a wrong understanding of the disease, or because the parents are eager to cure their children's myopia as soon as possible and try various informal treatments. What should we do if children are myopic? In daily life, children should be given more vitamins and wear myopia glasses for treatment as early as possible to avoid worsening of the degree.
