Is otitis media serious in children?

When the seasons change, it is very easy to catch a cold, especially in young children. Children may also develop complications such as otitis media after catching a cold. However, many mothers do not know much about this disease and do not know whether the occurrence of this disease will have a greater impact on their children's bodies. So, is otitis media serious in children?

First, is otitis media in children serious? The dangers of otitis media in children include hearing loss, hearing loss, and enhanced self-hearing. When the head tilts forward or toward the healthy side, hearing may temporarily improve (positional hearing improvement) because the effusion leaves the cochlear conduction. When the effusion is viscous, hearing may not change with changes in head position. Children are often brought to the doctor by their parents because of their slow response to sounds, poor concentration, and poor academic performance. If one ear is diseased and the hearing in the other ear is normal, it may not be noticed for a long time and may only be discovered during a physical examination.

Second, limb symptoms such as high fever, which can reach 39℃~40℃, crying and restlessness in children, hearing loss and ear pain, accompanied by digestive tract symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. These symptoms are similar to those of a cold or enteritis and are easily ignored or misdiagnosed. After examination, it can be found that the eardrum is congested and the auditory ossicles are red, swollen and bulging. Tinnitus is mostly low-pitched and intermittent, such as "crackling", buzzing and the sound of running water. When the head moves or when yawning or blowing the nose, a sound of air passing through the ears may be heard, sometimes intermittently and then reappearing.

Is otitis media serious in children? Generally, after 4-5 days of illness, the body temperature drops, the ear pain disappears, and the child can fall asleep, but the eardrum ruptures, pus flows out of the ear canal, and tinnitus and hearing loss still exist. If parents find that their baby has symptoms of otitis media, they must not ignore it. They must be vigilant and understand the harm that otitis media may cause to the baby's body. If the baby has otitis media, the mother should try to keep the baby in a quiet environment and never let the baby pick his ears with his hands. If children with acute otitis media are not treated in a standardized manner, they may suffer from hearing loss. In severe cases, it may cause extracranial and extracranial complications, including abscesses behind and under the ear, as well as intracranial complications such as meningitis, epidural abscess, subdural abscess, brain abscess, and even life-threatening.
