What to do if your baby has measles

What to do if your baby has measles

The period after a baby is born is the time when the baby's body is the weakest. It is not that they are in poor health, but that they have no resistance to the invasion of external germs. Therefore, they are more likely to get sick in the period just after birth. When a baby develops measles, the child should be taken to the hospital for examination, care and isolation. Urticaria is caused by a viral infection, so antibiotics are generally not used for the treatment of measles, but the emphasis is on reducing fever. At the same time, my country has an immunization program for measles in infants and young children.

What to do if your baby has measles

If your baby has a rash, it is best to go to the hospital for examination. After confirming that it is measles, it is best for parents to have the baby hospitalized for treatment. If cared for at home, isolation and care must be done well. The indoor temperature should be appropriate, the air should be kept fresh and avoid dryness, the baby should eat a light diet, drink plenty of warm water, and control body temperature appropriately. Usually the temperature will be relatively high during the rash period. Parents should not blindly lower the temperature to avoid suppressing the spread of the rash. They should use medication under the guidance of a doctor.

Can a baby take a bath when he has measles?

When a baby has measles, parents should not only take the child for active treatment, but also provide good care. Many parents are afraid to bathe their children. In fact, children with measles can be bathed, but attention should be paid to the water temperature. Too hot or too cold is not appropriate. You can use some talcum powder on your baby, but don’t apply too much as it may clog the pores. It is best for parents to cut their baby's nails short to prevent scratching the skin and causing infection, and avoid rubbing hard when bathing.

Treatment and care

Measles is caused by the measles virus, which is ineffective against antibiotics. Therefore, antibiotics are generally not needed for measles. Some people use antibiotics on sick children for "safety reasons", but this will only increase the pain of the sick children and will not provide any benefit. However, in a small number of children with measles who develop bacterial pneumonia, antibiotics are needed.

Generally, children with measles only need to drink more boiled water and keep their mouth, nose and eyes clean. You can drink soup made from reed root, or take medicine such as Yinqiao Jiedu Pills. When the fever is high, physical antipyretic methods can be used to reduce the temperature. When the cough is severe, take children's cough syrup. Generally, children with measles will gradually recover after a few days (3 days for the rash to appear and 3 days for it to disappear), as long as there are no other complications.

prevention

According to the child immunization program stipulated by the Chinese government, children aged 8 to 12 months are designated as the targets of primary immunization and receive a subcutaneous injection of live attenuated measles vaccine. For weak and sick infants and young children who have not received measles vaccination, giving them intramuscular injection of human immunoglobulin or placental globulin within 5 days after exposure to the measles virus can reduce the possibility of measles.
