Normal range of lead for two-year-old babies

Lead poisoning is a disease that can affect the human immune system, nervous system, skeletal system, etc. To prevent lead poisoning, you can stay away from pollution sources in your daily life. Many adults rarely suffer from lead poisoning diseases. Generally, lead poisoning is more common in children. The normal lead range for two-year-old babies is divided into five levels, and parents must be aware of this. Below is some detailed information about lead poisoning, you can learn more about it.

1. The globally recognized diagnosis and classification of childhood lead poisoning is mainly based on blood lead levels, which are divided into 5 levels:

Level Ⅰ: blood lead is less than 99 micrograms (0.099 mg)/L, which is relatively safe;

Level II: blood lead 100-199 μg/L, hemoglobin metabolism is affected, and nerve conduction velocity decreases;

Level III: Blood lead 200-499 μg/L, iron, zinc and calcium metabolism is affected, calcium deficiency, zinc deficiency, hemoglobin synthesis disorder occurs, and there may be symptoms such as low immunity, learning difficulties, lack of concentration, decreased IQ or physical growth retardation;

Level IV: Blood lead 500-699 micrograms/liter, which may cause symptoms of poisoning such as changeable personality, irritability, hyperactivity, aggressive behavior, movement disorders, decreased vision and hearing, unexplained abdominal pain, anemia and arrhythmia;

Level V: Blood lead ≥700 micrograms/liter, which can lead to renal damage, lead encephalopathy, and even death. In developed countries around the world, children's blood lead levels < 60 micrograms/liter are relatively safe, and the international blood lead diagnostic standard is ≥ 100 micrograms/liter for lead poisoning.

2. What are the hazards of excessive lead?

Intellectual damage caused by lead is irreversible. That is, after lead removal treatment, blood lead levels decreased, but there was no obvious recovery of intellectual impairment. The most serious harm of lead poisoning is damage to the nervous system, which can cause children to become irritable, impulsive, have abdominal pain, decreased appetite, inattention, personality changes, slow reaction, decreased intelligence, and memory loss. In severe cases, lead poisoning encephalopathy or even death may occur.

3. What are the causes of excessive lead?

1. Most of the lead pollution in the air comes from automobile exhaust and coal burning. Therefore, we should try to avoid places where we are easily exposed to car exhaust on the way to and from school, and wear masks in windy weather.

2. For a newly renovated house or a room with newly painted furniture, be sure to open the windows for ventilation and leave it empty for about a month. You can only move in after the gases containing harmful substances such as lead have dissipated.

3. According to statistics, 80%-90% of the lead in children's bodies is ingested through the digestive tract. Therefore, you must wash your hands frequently, do not suck your fingers, especially when eating snacks while playing, eating while flipping through books, and do not chew on pencil tips. Minimize "lead intake" caused by abnormal behavior.

4. Eat less or no high-lead food. Try to eat less foods like preserved eggs, popcorn, and low-quality canned drinks and foods. Do not drink the first section of tap water left overnight. Turn on the tap water in the early morning and let it sit for 1-5 minutes, as this section of water contains a higher level of lead.

5. Eat more foods containing calcium, iron and zinc. In the intestines, calcium, iron, zinc and lead enter the body through the same transporter protein, so there is a competitive mechanism. Soy products, meat, eggs and animal liver are rich in calcium, iron and zinc.

Avoid contact with contaminated food. Bag-packed food should be protected from direct contact between words, pictures and trademarks and the food.
