Why does my one-year-old baby have a bulging belly?

Some one-year-old babies have bulging stomachs, which seriously affects the baby's physical health. Therefore, many parents are worried about whether it will affect the baby's health. So if the baby has these problems, they should pay attention to timely take corresponding treatment methods to ensure the baby's physical safety. So why does a one-year-old baby have a bulging stomach?

Generally speaking, the belly of a newborn baby is always round, which is a very normal phenomenon, and it will gradually become flat as the baby grows older. This is because the baby's abdominal wall muscles are not yet fully developed, but have to accommodate the same number of internal organs as an adult. As the saying goes, "although the sparrow is small, it has all the internal organs", so the baby's belly often looks bloated.

In addition, babies are more prone to bloating than adults, which can make their bellies look rounder than adults'.

The gastrointestinal tract of newborns is immature, and the intestinal motility of various segments of the baby is not coordinated, which can easily cause flatulence. In addition, when feeding with a bottle, if the baby sucks too quickly or inhales too much air, it will cause bloating. So babies who are breastfed generally have less bloating, while babies who are formula-fed have the opposite. In this case, if the baby's diet and bowel movements are normal, the belly feels soft, the baby has good mobility, normal gas discharge, and normal weight gain, this type of abdominal distension is mostly functional abdominal distension and does not require special treatment.

However, parents should pay attention if the following situations occur, for example, abdominal distension accompanied by vomiting, loss of appetite, weight loss, difficulty in anal gas and defecation, and even symptoms of fever and bloody stools; a bloated and tight feeling in the abdomen; shortness of breath; and something like a lump can be felt in the abdomen. These phenomena may cause disease.

If your baby has a bloated belly, it is very likely caused by abdominal distension. If the baby's condition does not improve and the gas is not discharged for a long time, parents should take the baby to see a doctor in time for examination, so as to find out the cause of the baby's illness and take appropriate measures to treat it in time to avoid worsening of the condition.
