How long should I observe my baby if he falls on his head?

Babies are prone to falling when they walk unsteadily, so how long should you observe the baby if he falls? If the baby's head is broken, you should go to the hospital for treatment in time. If the baby's head is not broken and there are no abnormal symptoms, generally no treatment is required. Pay attention to whether your baby has symptoms such as drowsiness, nausea and vomiting. If the above symptoms occur, the brain may have suffered a concussion. Let’s take a closer look at how long we should observe our baby if he falls on his head.

Usually you should pay attention to:

1. Always pay attention to your baby's safety. Many mothers have already felt this, so there is no need to say more. This should not be taken lightly, especially when parents are sleep deprived in the morning. When leaving temporarily, be sure to build things around the bed (which cannot completely guarantee safety) or place it in a safe guardrail bed.

2. Falling off the bed may be an inevitable thing. If it happens, don't panic too much. Don't be too hasty to pick up your baby from the ground, and don't use too much force to avoid causing other unnecessary injuries.

3. If the baby starts crying immediately after falling, the possibility of brain injury is generally low. Babies are most afraid of falling on the back of their heads. If they fall face down, the danger is generally smaller and only external injuries need to be treated.

4. When the baby falls and hits his head, you should go to the hospital immediately in the following situations: 1) There is hemorrhagic trauma to the head; 2) The baby does not cry after the fall, and appears to be unconscious, semi-comatose and drowsy; 3) Within two days after the fall, there are repeated vomiting, excessive sleep, poor spirits or severe crying; 4) Within two days after the fall, there is bleeding or water in the nose or ears, and the pupils are uneven. Generally, if you fall and hit your head and cause severe concussion or intracranial hemorrhage, the symptoms will appear quickly, at the latest within 24 hours, so you should go to the hospital as soon as possible if you have symptoms.

5. For ordinary families nowadays, babies usually fall from the bed from a height of 50 to 60 centimeters at most, and the babies usually will not suffer serious injuries. Especially for children under one year old, the anterior fontanelle has not yet completely closed and there is a buffer inside the skull, so the chance of causing cerebral hemorrhage is very low.

6. If the baby falls and hits his head and there is no bleeding but a small swelling, he should be treated with cold compress immediately. If the swelling is large or red, you can apply some sesame oil as an emergency measure, or apply moistened potato slices on it, which can help relieve pain and remove blood stasis.

7. For a while after the baby falls, try to talk to him and tease him to divert his excitement, and do not hold him while sleeping. If the baby falls asleep soon after crying after falling, wake him up within an hour. If he wakes up crying, then there is no problem.

8. Even if you fall on your head, don't always suspect that you have a concussion. A concussion is characterized by a period of loss of consciousness and awareness. If the baby remains conscious, there will be no problem. If the baby vomits, it may be caused by fright or a temporary brain concussion. Generally, it will be better after vomiting two or three times, which is different from a concussion. Even if it is a concussion, if it is mild, there will be no sequelae.

9. After the baby falls and hits his head, he should be observed for two days. Try to let him rest more and move less during these two days. If you remain in good spirits and have a normal appetite within two days, you can rest assured.

10. After the baby falls off the bed, the mother will feel extremely remorseful, but regret and complaining are useless. The important thing is to deal with the baby's situation immediately and learn from it.
