Crying and refusing to sleep

Crying and refusing to sleep

For babies, if they cry incessantly and refuse to sleep at night, this will make parents feel distressed. At this time, parents should understand the reason why the child is crying and whether the child is hungry. Does the child have symptoms of fever, etc.? Is the indoor temperature appropriate? If the child cries frequently, parents must be alert. This is often related to some diseases. Let’s take a look at this aspect.

Crying and refusing to sleep

Before pregnancy, mothers would fall asleep as soon as they touched the pillow. After having a baby, sleep becomes a luxury. Especially in the first few months after the baby is born, your sleep time can only follow the baby's rhythm.

But I don’t know if the baby really doesn’t want to sleep or really needs a hug from his mother. He always cries for a while before going to bed every night, and the time it takes to coax him is getting longer and longer!

Some mothers say that it is better to coax the baby early and sleep early; some mothers say that there is no need to coax the baby, and the baby will fall asleep when he is tired of crying! However, if the baby keeps crying, it always feels too cruel not to coax or hold him! In fact, whether to coax the baby before going to bed depends on the age of the baby!

Whether to coax or not at different growth stages

1. Newborn baby

Babies at this stage have no concept of day and night. The two most important things in the day are sleeping and feeding. Generally, they will continue to sleep after feeding.

At this time, the baby will wake up as long as there is a slightly loud sound, so he always tiptoes. Of course, you must hug him as soon as he wakes up! It is never too much to pamper a newborn baby. We must pay attention to all his cries and respond to his needs in time, because babies cannot express themselves and their cries have a lot of meanings.

If your baby keeps crying, after eliminating various reasons, you still need to coax him to sleep at the right time. This will help develop regular sleep patterns.

A small expansion: Some mothers said that their children fall asleep when they are held, and wake up when they are put down, and they don’t know what to do. In fact, young babies do wake up easily when put down because their senses are not well developed, but there will be a significant improvement at 3-4 months. Believe me, it will be fine when the child grows up.

2. 4 months after birth

At this stage, the baby's sleep is a little regular, but you can't relax. In general, the sleeping time is reduced and the awake time is longer than when the baby was just born. Spend more time awake during the day and sleep longer at night.

At this time, the baby often cries after sleeping for a while during the day, but will fall asleep quickly again after being coaxed. He always cries before going to bed at night, but he is not so easy to deal with at night. Keep coaxing him! Pat him gently and sing a song. The baby starts to become smarter. When he is tired of his parents' tricks, he will fall asleep obediently.

Put your baby on the bed when he/she is awake, spend some quiet time with him/her before going to bed, and reduce the time he/she is held while sleeping, which is conducive to the cultivation of regular sleep. It will be much easier in the future!

3. Before 1 year old

During this stage, babies usually take two naps during the day and a 1-2 hour nap in the afternoon, but as long as it does not affect their sleep at night, they are generally left alone. But if this kind of sleeping habit causes you to have trouble falling asleep at night, then you should disrupt his habit appropriately during the day.

I still cry for a while before going to bed at night, as if I have treated this as a routine. At this time, as long as the baby is not sick, has peed, or is hungry, you don't need to comfort him when he is crying, and tell him "It's bedtime now, go to bed obediently". Let him cry for a while and he will fall asleep.

Generally speaking, babies are very smart. When they find that crying doesn’t work, they will stop crying. But, be sure to tell him, baby, mommy still loves you!

4. Intimate Tips

When babies cry before going to bed, in addition to being sick, hungry, or wetting their pants, most of the time it is related to a lack of security, playing too excitedly during the day, or being frightened, etc.

To develop good sleeping habits, try to speak softly to your baby after dark to let him know that it is time to go to bed at night. When it is time to go to bed, it is best to implement a fixed sleep routine: for example, draw the curtains and dim the lights to hint to your baby that it is time to go to bed. Over time, this will allow the child to form a conditioned reflex.

In this way, when the baby grows up, he can correct the habit of crying before going to bed.
