Side effects of general anesthesia for children's surgery

Many people choose to have an anesthetic injection during surgery because the anesthetic injection can effectively relieve a person's pain during surgery. However, since the anesthetic injection is a special drug, it will still have certain side effects on the human body. Some children also need surgery when they are sick, and general anesthesia is generally chosen for children to undergo surgery. General anesthesia is a more dangerous method, so what are the side effects of general anesthesia for children?

General anesthesia is abbreviated as general anesthesia. It refers to the temporary inhibition of the central nervous system caused by anesthetics entering the body through respiratory inhalation, intravenous or intramuscular injection. The clinical manifestations are loss of consciousness, loss of systemic pain, amnesia, reflex inhibition and skeletal muscle relaxation. The degree of central nervous system depression is related to the drug concentration in the blood and can be controlled and regulated. This inhibition is completely reversible. After the drug is metabolized or excreted from the body, the patient's consciousness and various reflexes gradually recover.

The function of general anesthesia is to block the transmission of pain to the brain and temporarily suppress the child's consciousness. During general anesthesia surgery in regular hospitals, the anesthesiologist will give the child additional anesthetics according to the needs of the surgery. When the surgery is over, the anesthesia is stopped. During the operation, the anesthesia machine can display various vital signs and closely monitor the blood supply to important organs such as the brain, heart, and kidneys. If any difference is found, the anesthesiologist will correct it in time.

In addition, anesthesia is a reversible process. As the anesthetic drugs are discontinued, they will gradually be metabolized and disappear, and the child will slowly wake up. Therefore, unless an anesthetic accident occurs, general anesthesia will not have adverse effects on the child's intellectual development. Anesthesia is usually safe.

Pediatric anesthesia does have certain risks, but anesthetic drugs only temporarily affect the child's nerves, and the nervous system function will return to normal after anesthesia. At present, there is no organization or data in the world to show that under normal anesthesia operations, a child's intelligence is directly related to anesthesia.
