Waking up with swollen eyes

Waking up with swollen eyes

Don't be too anxious if you find that your child's eyes are a little swollen when they wake up from sleep. Sometimes lack of sleep or increased water intake can cause swollen eyes. As long as you apply hot compress for a period of time, you will find that your baby's swollen eyes have improved. However, if you still find that they have clinical manifestations of swollen fingers and lower limb edema, you should take them for a detailed physical examination.

The child wakes up with swollen eyes

Many women begin to experience swelling in the second half of their menstrual cycle, most noticeably in the eyelids, with puffy eyelids, a feeling of heaviness, and tightness in the face. The fingers feel swollen and have difficulty moving. Swollen feet can cause tightness and discomfort when wearing shoes. In severe cases, the dorsum of the foot or even the ankle will feel indented after pressing with the fingers.

It is often accompanied by decreased urine volume and weight gain. In addition, abdominal distension, distension and discomfort in the breast area, and often headaches may occur, which are related to endocrine changes, increased estrogen levels before menstruation, and easy retention of water and sodium in the body. This edema reaches its peak before menstruation, and gradually subsides after menstruation as urination increases. To reduce this edema, you should eat light food and limit salt intake in the second half of the menstrual cycle.

Pregnancy edema

Many women develop edema as the pregnancy progresses, especially in the lower limbs, and gain weight significantly. They are often accompanied by high blood pressure, oliguria, and protein in the urine test. This type of pregnancy edema is more common in the middle and late stages of pregnancy and is related to endocrine changes. In addition, the enlarged uterus during pregnancy causes compression and obstruction of lymphatic return, which is also a cause of lower limb edema.

In addition to lower limb edema, some pregnant women also have facial edema accompanied by hypertension and proteinuria, which is also called "pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome." After delivery, urine volume increased, edema subsided, blood pressure returned to normal, and proteinuria disappeared. Pregnant women with edema should rest in bed more often, especially lying on their side or prone, which can improve blood supply to the kidneys and placenta, reduce renin secretion, and relieve edema. In addition, salt intake should be limited appropriately.

High temperature edema

Many middle-aged women are prone to swelling of the dorsum of the feet and ankles in summer. This is because in a high temperature environment, the skin blood vessels expand, causing local capillary congestion, increased blood vessel wall permeability, and increased water entering the surrounding tissues, thus causing edema. This edema does not affect your health and does not require treatment.

Blood flow disorder edema

It is more common in obese women, and there is no weakening of the heart system or heart function. It is only because the veins in the lower limbs are surrounded by soft fat, which lacks mechanical pressure on the vein walls. After standing or sitting for a long time, due to gravity, it is difficult for blood in the lower limbs to return to the heart, causing tissue fluid to stay in the subcutaneous tissue and cause edema. Walking more often and exercising your leg muscles can promote blood circulation in the lower limbs. When you have edema, soak your feet in hot water and lift your feet up. This will help the blood in the veins in the lower feet flow back to the heart, and the edema will quickly subside.
