Baby's eyes have a lot of eye mucus

When a baby is born, many parents are very excited. However, they may feel helpless when taking care of the baby. After all, new mothers lack experience in taking care of babies. Many babies have a lot of eye mucus after birth. When there is a lot of eye mucus, it may even seem that the baby cannot open his eyes. There are many reasons for this phenomenon.

Why does my baby have a lot of eye mucus?

First of all, when the baby is 2 to 3 months old, the eyelashes will grow quietly. However, the growth of eyelashes may irritate the baby's eyeballs and produce eye mucus. However, this phenomenon is a physiological and natural phenomenon. When the baby is about one year old, this phenomenon will basically disappear.

Secondly, about 2% to 4% of babies will develop dacryocystitis at birth. The disease can easily prevent the baby's tears from flowing down through the tear duct. Long-term accumulation in the lacrimal sac area can easily cause inflammation, so the baby's eyes will also have symptoms of excessive eye mucus.

Finally, when the baby is getting angry, he will also have a lot of eye mucus, dry stool, thick and white tongue coating, and some babies will even sweat profusely and are particularly afraid of heat.

The reason why children have a lot of eye mucus

1. If the baby's eyes often have some yellow and sticky eye mucus, and the eyes also appear red and congested, it means that the baby's eyes may be infected by bacteria and cause keratitis. At this time, parents must pay special attention to timely treatment of the baby, because inflammation may affect the child's future vision.

2. Many mothers will add milk powder to their babies because of insufficient breast milk. However, babies who often drink milk powder are prone to getting angry, which can easily cause the baby to have a lot of yellow eye mucus. At this time, mothers do not need to panic too much. They can give their babies more water, and the phenomenon of getting angry will naturally disappear.

3. Some babies have a lot of eye mucus, which may be caused by congenital blockage of the tear duct. If mothers find that their babies do not cry or shed tears, they must pay enough attention to it and take the baby to the hospital to check if there is any abnormality in the tear glands.

How to deal with children's excessive eye mucus

1. Delicate babies may get inflamed due to unreasonable diet, which may cause excessive eye mucus. Mothers can improve the baby's constipation, eat more vegetables and fruits, and then use some digestive drugs to improve the liver fire caused by indigestion, and the excessive eye mucus phenomenon will gradually improve.

2. When mothers are dealing with eye mucus for their babies, they must pay attention to eye cleanliness and use running water to wash their hands. Then soak the sterilized cotton swab in warm water and squeeze out excess water, and gently wipe the baby's eyes. The order must be from the inside of the eye to the outside of the eye. If there is eye mucus on the baby's eyelashes, you can apply a sterilized cotton ball to the baby and then wipe it.

3. When mothers wipe the baby's eye mucus, they must be gentle and never hurt the baby's eyes. The cleaning tools used must be strictly disinfected or use some sterilized gauze cotton swabs. The number of times should be one-time only to avoid repeated wiping and bacterial infection.
