How to teach math to kids

Parents always hope that their children can learn mathematics early to increase their thinking ability. Many people think that letting children learn knowledge early is beneficial for schooling. In fact, this is not the case. Although children can be taught to learn knowledge, they must master the method. Some parents just teach their children to recognize numbers, but the children do not like to learn. So how do you teach children math?

When it comes to children learning calculations, there are two points to remind you of: First, the purpose of learning calculations for preschool children is enlightenment, and the main thing is to make children interested in calculations, activate their brains, and develop their thinking. It is not about learning a lot or learning in depth, so don't pursue the difficulty of calculations; second, teach according to the children's possibilities and needs. There are differences in the way children learn mathematics. If a child has the possibility and need to learn, he should be taught. If a child has difficulties or is disgusted, don't force it on the child. Regarding the method of learning carry and borrow operations, here are some references for parents: 1. Practice operations within 10, as this is the basis of carry and borrow operations. Operations within 10 will be easy if you understand them clearly. Otherwise, operations after 10 will be confusing.

2. Children should be taught to recognize the structure of two-digit numbers and to distinguish between the "tens" and "ones". For example, "14" contains a "10" and a "4", especially the "1" in the tens place. Children should understand that it represents "10". Only when they understand this clearly can they accept the calculation of two-digit numbers.

3. For two-digit calculations, it is suitable to combine the "horizontal form" and the "vertical form". The relationship between the tens and ones of the vertical form is more obvious. Instead of explaining these "terms" to children, let them understand through intuition.

4. If the child has difficulty in calculation, provide small objects for the child to fiddle with while calculating. For example, if the child cannot calculate 14 minus 5, let the child take 14 beans to assist in the calculation. The thinking of preschool children is very concrete. Let the child use it when necessary.

The "crutch" of "physical objects" can help improve calculation ability.

5. The calculation process should be carried out step by step. First, practice addition and subtraction within 20 without carry or borrow. After you understand it clearly, you can then perform the calculation of carry and borrow. Carry and borrow are quite difficult, so don't be in a hurry to teach your child addition and subtraction within 10. You can often make up some small stories and let the child participate in them. Before you know it, the child will have learned the calculations. Moreover, every time the children show great interest in these short stories, they find it very easy to learn addition and subtraction. For example, when learning addition and subtraction of 8, I made up a short story like this, in which I often interacted with the children, asked each other questions, and even let the children continue the story: The little monkey wanted to buy 8 apples for his grandmother. It came to the market and saw the red apples were tempting and the green apples were also good, so it bought a few of both kinds. (Buy 5 red apples and how many green apples?) The little monkey happily walked towards his grandmother's house carrying a box filled with 8 apples. They bumped into a piglet on the road and knocked an apple off the ground, but they didn't know it. (How many apples are left now?) The piglet is the monkey’s good friend and he is very happy to see the monkey. The little pig said he was thirsty, so the little monkey gave him an apple to quench his thirst.
