Newborns sleep less

Newborns sleep less

Generally, newborns like to sleep, especially after eating, but there are also many babies who do not like to sleep and have very little sleep time. A newborn baby’s short sleep time does not mean that the baby is unhealthy. It may also be that the baby’s digestion and absorption are better, so the baby is hungry more frequently. When the baby is hungry, he naturally cannot sleep. Of course, if the baby doesn’t like to sleep for a long time, parents should pay attention to see if the baby is sick or uncomfortable and find out the cause in time.

1. Hunger. It is more common in newborns and infants under three months old, and breastfeeding or milk feeding is needed to solve the problem. This factor can be eliminated for older babies if they are well fed before going to bed. In dry weather, your baby may be thirsty at night, and giving him some water can help calm him down.

2. Calcium deficiency is one of the main factors that cause restless sleep in babies, and most people will take it into consideration. Calcium deficiency and low blood calcium levels increase the excitability of the brain's autonomic nerves, causing infants to wake up at night, have night terrors, become restless at night, and sleep poorly.

3. It’s too hot. Nowadays, most baby clothes are warmer. If the room temperature is quite high and the baby is wearing a sleeping bag and covered with a small quilt, the baby's own heat dissipation ability is poor and he will feel hot and wake up.

4. The brain nerves are not yet fully developed. The child has not yet established a fixed schedule physically. The adjustment of the day and night rhythm of the baby's biological clock depends on the baby's physiological maturity.

5. The baby may feel uncomfortable because the diaper is too wet or too tight. Some babies are reluctant to pee in their diapers when they want to pee, and they toss and turn restlessly.

6. His nervous system is not fully developed, and the excitability of peripheral nerves is relatively high. The deep sleep time is relatively short, that is, the alternation between deep sleep and light sleep at night is relatively frequent. For example, for children like this, this kind of baby may wake up easily in one to two hours. The second main cause is internal factors, mainly his nervous system. Pathological factors should also be ruled out. If you can't sleep well at night, you should go to the pediatric department of the hospital to see if there are any neurological problems. You should check MRI or CT, EEG, etc.
