Is it normal for newborns not to cry?

One of the most troublesome problems for parents is that their babies like to cry a lot. Because for young babies, they cannot express their feelings with words, they can only express their emotions by crying. So most babies like to cry, which is a very normal phenomenon. However, some parents find that their newborn babies do not like to cry. Is this normal?

1. If the newborn baby doesn’t cry, go to the hospital for a check-up first.

In fact, it is normal for babies not to cry in most cases, which is mainly related to their personal character. However, if parents are worried, they can also take their baby for a check-up to see if he or she has any disease. If so, treatment should be sought as soon as possible to minimize the risk.

2. Newborns not crying is not good for brain development

If the newborn baby does not cry, most mothers will be very grateful, thinking that it saves a lot of trouble, and they also think that the child has been sensible since childhood. Actually, it is not. If nothing beneficial is done for a baby after it is born and he is just left lying there quietly, the child's brain will suffer from severe lack of stimulation. It is very likely that he will not be able to speak until he is two or even three years old, and will become a developmentally delayed child. It is suggested that parents should not do nothing during the infant's period and let the infant spend every day in loneliness. You will get as much as you give to him. Investing in your child's intelligence will give you a baby with amazing qualities.

3. If a newborn baby does not cry, it may be due to thyroid defect

If a newborn baby does not cry and is unusually obedient, you should also be vigilant. If the baby not only does not like to cry but also has symptoms such as excessive sleepiness, difficulty feeding, easy spitting up, no weight gain or slow growth, you should be vigilant because it may be congenital hypothyroidism, abbreviated as congenital hypothyroidism. It is mainly caused by congenital thyroid defects in the child or iodine deficiency in the mother's diet during pregnancy. It is a common endocrine disease in infants.

Neonatal care knowledge

1. Pay special attention to the living environment of newborns

Newborns are somewhat not adapted to the changes in external temperature. The appropriate indoor temperature should be maintained at 25℃ ~ 28℃. Appropriate cooling is required in midsummer, while warmth is required in winter. However, attention should be paid to ventilation and it is best to have a heater nearby. The indoor light should not be too dark or too bright. Some parents believe that newborns have weak photosensitivity and are afraid of irritating their eyes, so they often like to hang heavy curtains. In fact, this is not advisable. Babies should learn to adapt to natural indoor light and avoid direct sunlight to their eyes.

2. Newborn baby's clothes and diapers should be carefully selected

Newborn's underwear should be made mainly of soft and absorbent cotton fabrics. It is best not to use chemical fibers or printed and dyed fabrics. The color of the clothes should be light to facilitate the detection of dirt and prevent the dye from irritating the newborn's skin. The clothes should be as loose as possible, not hinder limb movements, and easy to put on and take off. Diapers should be made of soft, absorbent cotton fabrics and should be washed and changed frequently. Usually, they should be changed more than 4 times during the day and more than 2 times at night. The baby's butt should be cleaned each time they are changed, and an appropriate amount of skin care oil should be applied.

3. The sleep and sleeping posture of newborns cannot be ignored

Sleeping posture affects breathing, and the newborn's head is relatively soft, so a good sleeping posture is beneficial to the development of the head. It is recommended to have a comfortable small pillow with a thickness of 1 to 2 cm, slightly sunken in the middle and slightly raised at both ends.
