Is it normal for a newborn to snore?

Newborn babies are immature in all aspects, so sometimes there are situations that make parents unsure whether they are good or bad, such as is it normal for newborns to snore? We know that many adults, especially middle-aged and elderly people, snore, but babies also snore, which is related to the incomplete development of children's respiratory organs. In other words, snoring in newborns is a normal physiological phenomenon and parents don’t need to worry.

1. Is it normal for newborns to snore?

When a baby is just born, many organs in the body have not yet fully developed, including the baby's respiratory central nervous system, so the breathing is not as regular as our adults. They are relatively fragile, and this kind of unrhythmic breathing can easily cause the so-called snoring. As the baby grows, the functions of various organs gradually develop fully, and the snoring phenomenon will gradually improve. Therefore, snoring in newborns is a very normal thing, and parents don’t need to worry too much!

What is persistent snoring?

Baby's snoring can be divided into continuous and non-continuous. If a turning over movement can stop the baby's snoring, it is non-continuous and is a normal phenomenon. However, if the baby's snoring is difficult to stop and lasts for a long time, it is considered continuous snoring. To ensure the baby's health, parents need to take the baby to the hospital for relevant examinations in time.

3. Reasons why babies snore when they sleep

1. Poor breathing airflow: Poor airflow will result in insufficient oxygen entering the baby's body, thereby reducing the amount of oxygen in the blood. When this happens repeatedly, the baby will enter a state of discontinuous sleep. If this state is repeated frequently, the baby may snore while sleeping.

2. Genetics: This phenomenon may also be related to the parents' congenital genes. For example, if the mother's jaw is not normal and her respiratory tract is not smooth, it will generally be passed on to her children, causing the children to have breathing problems when sleeping, thus causing the baby to snore while sleeping.
