Symptoms of penicillin allergy in babies

Symptoms of penicillin allergy in babies

Penicillin is an antibiotic that is widely used in clinical practice. It is also the first antibiotic discovered by humans that is suitable for the treatment of human diseases. However, when injecting penicillin to treat diseases, a skin test is generally required, mainly to see whether the body is allergic to penicillin. Once an allergy occurs, it is no joke and may cost the patient's life. So, what are the symptoms of penicillin allergy in babies?

Symptoms of penicillin allergy:

1. Symptoms of penicillin allergy generally do not occur during the first use of the drug.

2. Symptoms of penicillin allergy: The body is in a sensitive state. After re-contact with the allergen, the disease may occur within a few minutes to 24 hours. In some cases, the onset may be delayed to a few days.

3. Symptoms of penicillin allergy: After an allergic reaction occurs, stop taking the drug. Mild symptoms can disappear quickly and the prognosis is good. If severe cases are not treated promptly, it may lead to death or sequelae.

4. For patients who have been sensitized, the pathogenicity of the drug may persist for a long time, even for life. Taking the drug again may cause the original symptoms to reappear or become more severe. The more times a patient is exposed to the drug, the more severe the reaction tends to be.

5. Drugs with similar structures often cause cross or complete cross allergic reactions.

6. Certain diseases can increase the body's sensitivity to drugs, but after serious illness, trauma or major surgery, the allergic reactions of some original drugs will be alleviated or disappear.

7. Allergic reactions to some drugs can be detected by skin tests, but there are also cases where the skin test results do not match the actual clinical reactions.

8. Drug allergic reactions are different from the symptoms of the original disease, such as asthma caused by aspirin, indomethacin, deafness caused by gentamicin and streptomycin, anaphylactic shock caused by penicillin and iodine preparations, etc.
