Reasons for darkening of newborn skin

Reasons for darkening of newborn skin

Generally speaking, it is normal for a newborn to have dark skin after birth. Don't worry too much if the baby has dark skin and wrinkles when he is just born. As the child develops well, this phenomenon will gradually improve. Of course, some children may be born darker due to genetic reasons, or it may be related to diet. Let’s take a look at this aspect.

Reasons for darkening of newborn skin

There are two main reasons for babies' dark skin. One is genetic factors, and the other is acquired factors, including whether the nutrition is balanced, whether the sun protection is in place, and whether the daily skin care is done correctly.

If you want your baby to have white skin, in terms of nutrition, parents can give their children foods rich in vitamins and hyaluronic acid (a component of the human dermis that can enhance skin elasticity and water-locking ability), such as meat, vegetables and fruits. These foods can moisturize the baby's skin and make the skin shiny. Also, don't expose your baby to too much sun. Although sunbathing is beneficial to the baby's bone growth and enhancing resistance, if the baby is overexposed to the sun, the combined effects of photoaging and phototoxicity will cause the baby's skin to increase in pigmentation, becoming rough and dark.

If the skin is not only black but also a little yellow, there may be two reasons. One is jaundice caused by disease. In this case, in addition to the yellow skin, the baby's sclera (around the black eyeball) will also turn yellow. The other is overnutrition. Due to excessive supplementation of carotene (such as always eating pumpkin, carrots and other foods rich in carotene), carotenoids are caused. The child's nose and palms will also turn yellow, but the eyes are not yellow. In this case, parents should reduce the baby's intake of such food. After a period of metabolism, the baby will return to a healthy state.

Analysis of the causes of cyanosis of newborn skin

When a baby is just born, its organs and tissues are not fully developed, such as the brain, liver, gastrointestinal tract, etc. It seems that every mother knows this. However, some mothers know very little about the baby's skin, and even think that there is not much difference between it and that of adults. In fact, the baby's skin, like other organs and tissues, has not yet fully developed in structure and does not have many functions of adult skin. It will take at least three years for it to develop like an adult's skin.

Therefore, mothers must be careful when taking care of their babies. Sometimes, if they are not careful, it will cause a lot of trouble and bring great distress to the lives of mother and baby. Next, I will introduce to you a common skin phenomenon in newborns - local cyanosis.
