What causes headaches in children?

It is common for children to have headaches in life. There are many reasons for children's headaches. If children often have this situation, they should go to the hospital for examination. It may be related to organic lesions or genetics. In addition, if children have sinusitis, otitis media or myopia, they may cause headaches. Of course, psychological factors cannot be ignored. Let's take a look at what causes children's headaches?

What causes headaches in children?

The first is organic diseases of the five sense organs: Many children’s headaches are not actually problems with the head, but pain caused by diseases of the five sense organs, such as myopia, amblyopia, astigmatism, otitis media; nasal congestion, sinusitis, tooth decay, dental abscesses, etc. These factors cause head pain.

The second is muscle contraction headache: this type of headache often occurs near the temples. It is caused by tension in the scalp muscles due to schoolwork pressure, emotional tension or excessive fatigue. It usually occurs more easily in the afternoon or evening and will be relieved and improved after rest.

The third is headache caused by psychological factors: the headache of this type of patient is actually the product of psychological frustration. Many children often complain about headaches to attract their parents' attention. Some children who do not adapt well in school, are afraid of going to school, taking exams or doing homework, also use headaches as an excuse to escape. Parents need to observe and ask questions patiently to find out the cause of their children's headaches, and cooperate with school teachers to eliminate their children's headaches.

The fourth is migraine: This is a headache caused by blood vessel dilation, often located in the forehead and occipital area. Usually the patient will feel throbbing pain on one or both sides of the scalp, and will also have some physical symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, photophobia, dizziness, eye muscle paralysis or half of the body immobility. Some patients may experience visual symptoms such as astigmatism, blind spots, and color illusions before experiencing a headache. Headaches can be prevented if vasoconstrictors are taken immediately when the aura occurs.

Finally, there are real brain diseases: such as brain tumors, encephalitis, meningitis, cerebral vascular obstruction, cerebral hemorrhage, etc. Except for brain tumors which progress slowly, most of them are quite rapid and severe. In addition to severe headaches, patients will also have nausea, vomiting, confusion, convulsions, or weakness in the hands and feet, as well as increased intracranial pressure, and may even be life-threatening, so they should not be taken lightly.

Several folk remedies for treating headaches in children

1. When you have a headache, soak your hands in a basin of hot water (keep the water temperature at around 60°C) for about 30 minutes, and the headache will be relieved or even disappear.

This is because migraine is caused by congestion of cerebral blood vessels, which compresses the brain nerves. When the blood vessels in the hands expand and blood flows to the hands, the amount of blood congestion in the brain blood vessels is relatively reduced, the blood vessel expansion is also reduced, the pressure is relieved, and the pain gradually disappears.

2. Put two drops of raw white radish juice into the nostrils twice a day for four to five days to eliminate headaches. But avoid pepper and pepper.

3. Grind 4 grams of Angelica dahurica, 2 grams of borneol, and 2 grams of asarum into powder, roll it into a paper tube, put the powder on fire, and inhale the smoke through your nose. This recipe is suitable for neuralgia.

4. Apply white radish peel on both sides of the temples for 20 minutes every night to cure migraine.

5. Drink more water. Dehydration is one of the most common causes of headaches. It is recommended to drink more boiled water or fresh juice and avoid caffeinated beverages such as tea and coffee.

6. Head massage. Use your index finger and/or thumb to gently massage the headache area in a circular motion to relax the muscles and improve blood circulation. Press for 7-15 seconds and then release. If necessary, the action can be repeated.
