What happens if a child has eye boogers?

Everyone has eye discharge, but some have more and some have less. So some people will not have obvious eye discharge after waking up, and it looks like there is no change. But some people will have a lot of eye discharge after waking up, which often appears in the corners of the eyes and around the eyes, forming a circle. In severe cases, it will affect the opening of the eyes, especially for children because their eyelashes are long and their eyes are still in the development stage. What is the reason for the excessive eye discharge?

The reason why babies have a lot of eye mucus

Excessive eye mucus is mainly formed by the mixture of oil secreted by the meibomian glands and dust that enters the eyeball during the day. There are several main reasons why babies have excessive eye mucus.

1. Stimulation of eyelashes

Normally, when babies are 2-3 months old, they may have some white eye mucus on their eyes when they wake up in the morning. This is because the eyelashes tend to grow inward during this period, and the friction and stimulation of the eyeballs produces eye mucus. Generally, around 1 year old, eyelashes will grow outwards naturally and the eye mucus will gradually decrease.

Elimination method: You can wipe it clean with a warm towel, or you can use a cotton swab dipped in 2% boric acid solution and gently wipe it from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corner of the eye.

2. Getting angry

There is heat accumulation in the baby's body, which is commonly known as "getting angry". It is often accompanied by symptoms such as intolerance to heat, easy sweating, dry stool, and thick tongue coating.

Elimination method: Feed more water in normal times, take some Chinese medicine to clear away heat and fire, and relieve food stagnation when necessary, or go to the hospital for treatment.

3. Bacterial infection

After the baby is born, many parents are afraid that the child will catch a cold, so the room temperature at home is often high, and bacteria are easy to multiply. In addition, the newborn will unconsciously rub his eyes with his hands, which can easily lead to symptoms of conjunctivitis such as increased eye secretions and conjunctival congestion. If a baby suddenly has a lot of yellow eye mucus, and the eyes are congested and red, it may be because bacteria have invaded the lacrimal sac, multiplied and festered inside, and the pus fills the entire lacrimal sac and cannot be excreted, so it accumulates in the corners of the eyes. This may lead to keratitis, in which the cornea may turn from black to white to form white spots. If not treated in time, it will affect the child's vision development.

form

When we get up in the morning and wash our faces in front of the mirror, we will find that there is always some eye boogers in the corners of our eyes, sometimes more, sometimes less. How does eye boogers come about? In fact, there is a "tarsal plate" inside our eyelids. It is located at the edge of the eyelids, close to the eyelashes, and it secretes a liquid like oil day and night. During the day, the oil secreted by the eyelids is applied to the edges of the eyelids through blinking, which can provide a certain degree of protection for the eyes. When night falls and we close our eyes to rest, our tarsus is still working hard. At this time, the oil it secretes mixes with the dust that enters the eyes during the day and impurities in the tears, and accumulates in the corners of the eyes to form eye boogers.

Prevention

Everyone has a small amount of normal eye mucus, it is not a disease. But if the amount of eye mucus suddenly increases, it is most likely caused by getting angry, especially in autumn and winter. The climate is dry in autumn and winter, and the human body is prone to dehydration, which can cause inflammation and increased eye mucus. However, it should be noted that if the amount of eye mucus suddenly increases and is pink or red in color, it may be caused by eye diseases such as conjunctivitis and trachoma.

If the increase in eye mucus is caused by getting angry, you can just eat more vegetables and fruits and drink more water. You can also drink Chinese medicine tea regularly, which can have a good preventive and therapeutic effect. In addition, you should prevent office eye diseases, pay attention to the combination of work and rest, and try not to face the computer for a long time. After working for an hour or two, you can take a break and look at some green plants to relax your eyes. Also, don't sit too close to the computer when using it. If your eyes feel dry and uncomfortable, try to blink more often to reduce the evaporation of water in your eyes.
