What to do if your eight-year-old child is rebellious

Children will go through several different rebellious periods as they grow up. When this happens, it is the most troublesome time for parents. Parents always hope that their children can be obedient and well behaved. As an individual, children will have their own thoughts as they grow older. When children show rebellious emotions, parents must give them correct guidance.

1. Don’t push too hard

Usually, children like to write, so parents will start to urge them to finish their work. If urging once doesn’t work, urge more frequently. Gradually, the child learns to "block out" the parents' urging. Even after being urged several times, he will make a small change, and finally he may reach the point where he won't move even after being urged. If you don't want to fall into a vicious cycle of urging your children, try to change it now. For example, if a child is about to be late for school but is still dawdling, let him bear the consequences of being late and be criticized by the teacher. Maybe next time you don't need to urge him, he will be more proactive in going to school earlier.

2. Say “no” less often

When educating our children we often say: Stop watching TV, stop wasting time, don’t do this, don’t do that... but then they become even worse.

Psychological research shows that each of our subconscious minds does not accept negative words. The more you say "don't do" something, the more your subconscious mind will tell you "do it".

Children are more willing to accept "Go wash your hands, kid, we are going to eat" than "Stop watching TV, wash your hands and eat." Because the child's self-awareness is respected, she will become obedient.

When we speak, we should use more affirmative sentences, be straightforward and tell children clearly "what you can do" and point them in the right direction. On the other hand, remember not to let children guess what you are thinking, otherwise one day they will ask you to guess what they are thinking.

3. Avoid yelling

Yelling and yelling will only make the situation worse for your child! Parents’ love allows children to accept themselves during their rebellious period, gives them a sense of security, and their emotions will be reduced. In order to stabilize children's emotions and resolve rebellious psychology, parents must refrain from yelling or shouting. Only when parents can control their emotions can they provide children with a quiet and harmonious environment, and children will feel more at ease.

4. Learn to respect

We often see this scene: when parents take their children to the mall, the children start asking to buy this and that, and then the parents and their children engage in a battle of willpower. Of course, the parents won in the end and labeled their child "being unreasonable."

In fact, this can be avoided. Parents can make an agreement with their children before entering the mall: You can buy one thing today, and we agree that you can only buy one. If parents don’t tell the child in advance, the child won’t know that their parents’ only thought is: they are just taking me shopping and they don’t plan to buy me anything. On the contrary, the child's heart is full of expectations. Finally, parents feel that their children are naughty, disobedient, and disobedient. What adults don’t realize is that children may find it difficult to communicate or talk to their parents.
