What to do if your child vomits after taking medicine

Children's constitution is weaker than that of adults, so most children are prone to illness. When children are sick, they need to take medicine to treat it. However, children generally do not like to take medicine, so parents need to feed them. During the process of feeding medicine, some babies even vomit after taking the medicine. In this way, the baby cannot take the medicine and the disease cannot be treated. So what should I do if the child vomits after taking the medicine?

Here are some things to keep in mind when giving your baby medicine:

1. It is best not to breastfeed your baby before giving the medicine, because the baby will refuse to take the medicine if he is not hungry, and forcing it down the drain will cause vomiting.

2. Do not let the baby know about the preparation work before feeding the medicine, otherwise the baby will become alert.

3. When preparing to feed medicine, you need to distract the baby's attention (you can find something that the baby is most interested in to attract her, give the baby some sugar water, or talk to the baby) to prevent the baby from being nervous because of premonition.

4. Be careful when the baby is crying. Do not feed the baby when he is crying loudly or inhaling, otherwise the baby may choke on the trachea and cause danger.

5. When the medicine is in the baby's mouth, keep the spoon in her mouth for a while, and then take out the spoon after the baby swallows the medicine. This way, the medicine will not be easily spit out by the baby.

6. If the baby spits out the medicine, you should give him/her a supplementary feeding based on the amount spit out. After the baby takes the medicine, you should feed him more boiled water to allow the medicine to fully dissolve in the baby's stomach.

First give your baby some sweeter medicine, such as western medicine like anti-inflammatory granules, so that the baby will feel that medicine can be sweet. Then give him some bitter Chinese patent medicine and he will like it much better.

If the baby still feels that the medicine is bitter, you can prepare a small piece of rock sugar. After the baby drinks the medicine, you can reward the baby with a piece of rock sugar. The baby will not spit out the medicine after eating the rock sugar. Be careful not to use too much rock sugar.

When the baby closes his mouth and refuses to take medicine, you can use a large spoon to pry the baby's mouth open (don't hurt the baby), and then use a small spoon to pour the diluted medicine into the baby's mouth along the large spoon, being careful not to choke the baby.

When feeding your baby several kinds of medicine, try to let him finish it in one breath. If there is a pause in the middle, the baby will cry and refuse to take the medicine. If your baby really doesn't want to take the medicine, you can pour the decoction into a clean, unused syringe, without a needle, and inject it into the corner of the baby's mouth. Or buy a special feeding machine for your baby, which is safer.
