The child has no fever but coughs

When children have a cold, there are several obvious symptoms, including coughing, fever, runny nose, etc. In serious cases, they may also have tonsillitis and have no choice but to seek medical treatment. However, different children have different situations. Some children do not have a fever but only cough. This situation is considered relatively mild. Parents can let their children drink more cough suppressants, but they should also always pay attention to the degree of their children's cough to prevent the occurrence of pneumonia.

If the baby coughs but does not have a fever, could it be pneumonia?

If your baby has a cough but no fever, it may be pneumonia. Many parents only know that symptoms such as fever and cough are typical manifestations of pneumonia in children. However, they do not know that even if a child does not have a fever or cough, he or she may still get pneumonia. Especially for infants under 1 year old, whose immunity is relatively low, they may not necessarily have a fever when pneumonia first occurs. In addition, their airway responses are not yet fully developed. Even if there is airway inflammation, they usually do not have an obvious cough reaction. Some children do not even cough.

Children with pneumonia generally suffer from hypoxia problems. If the hypoxia lasts for a long time, it will affect the child's brain development. Children with severe pneumonia may also experience respiratory distress, respiratory failure, and in severe cases, even life-threatening. According to a survey, pneumonia ranks first among the causes of death among children under 5 years old in our country.

Parents must be highly vigilant about pneumonia in children who do not have fever or cough. If a child over one year old shows unexplained symptoms such as lethargy, decreased appetite, and rapid breathing, or an infant under one year old shows unexplained refusal to drink milk, choking, convulsions, not crying, and drowsiness, parents should take their children to the hospital for examination as soon as possible. The doctor can determine whether the child has pneumonia by auscultating the child's heart and taking a chest X-ray if necessary.

Distinguishing between pneumonia and common cold (cough)

1. Body temperature. Pneumonia in children is mostly accompanied by fever, which is usually above 38°C and lasts for a long time. Even with the use of antipyretic drugs, the fever can only subside temporarily and then recur again. Children also have fever when they have a cold, but it lasts for a shorter period of time, and using antipyretic drugs to control body temperature is more effective.

2. Symptoms

1. Check the coughing and breathing conditions. When babies get pneumonia, they usually have severe coughing or wheezing, which is severe and can cause breathing difficulties. Coughing or wheezing caused by colds and bronchitis is usually mild and does not cause breathing difficulties.

2. Look at your diet. When a baby has pneumonia, he has a poor appetite, does not like to eat, does not want to drink milk, and often cries and is restless. When a baby has a cold, his diet is basically normal, or he eats and drinks slightly less.

3. Look at the mental state. When a baby has pneumonia, his mental state is not very good, and he is prone to irritability, crying, drowsiness, etc. When babies have a cold, they are generally in good spirits and can eat and play.
