What should I do if my child gets prickly heat on his head?

The weather in summer is very hot. Because of the high temperature, babies will sweat a lot, and if they are not careful, they will get prickly heat on their skin. Some children will also get prickly heat on their scalp. When they feel itchy, they will keep scratching with their hands. They are particularly afraid of skin infection. So how should we deal with prickly heat in summer? Let's follow the editor to learn about it. We must pay attention to our baby's health.

Causes of prickly heat

Prickly heat is a mild inflammation of the openings of sweat glands on the skin. The weather is hot in summer and people sweat a lot, which softens the epidermis. In addition, the dirt accumulated on the skin clogs the openings of the sweat glands, causing prickly heat. When prickly heat is infected, it forms prickly heat toxin.

Symptoms: prickly heat often occurs on the scalp, forehead, neck, chest, armpits, and thighs. Red spots first appear on the skin, followed by pinpoint-sized rashes or blisters.

Children with prickly heat should be actively cared for. The main care methods are:

(1) Pay attention to indoor air circulation to keep the indoor temperature cool;

(2) Change clothes frequently: Wear loose and dry clothes and avoid wearing synthetic underwear;

(3) When it is hot, make sure to bathe with warm water 2 to 3 times a day to keep the skin clean, and apply anti-prickly heat powder after bathing. Do not bathe your child with cold water after returning from outside, because cold water will suddenly block the previously open sweat pores and cause sweat retention, which can easily cause prickly heat or aggravate the condition.

(4) Children should be given more mung bean soup and honeysuckle water, and should avoid spicy foods and strong tea and coffee. If your child has prickly heat, do not apply ointments or oil preparations;

(5) Do not squeeze or scratch the affected area with your hands;

(6) Avoid strong sunlight;

(7) If large-scale prickly heat occurs, go to the hospital for treatment immediately.

Once a child develops prickly heat, you must pay attention to skin cleanliness. It is best not to use soap when bathing, as it can easily irritate the skin and cause the itching to worsen. At the same time, children's clothes should be changed frequently, and skin problems must be taken seriously, otherwise it is easy to leave scars, which will affect the appearance in the future and avoid psychological trauma to the child.
