What should I do if my baby eats desiccant?

Many parents, if they are not careful, will cause their babies to accidentally eat something, such as desiccant. This kind of thing is absolutely not allowed to be ingested. Once it happens, you need to take rescue measures immediately. Don't rush to the hospital. Give your baby water or milk immediately. In this way, you can control the baby's drinking amount to a certain extent.

Situation 1: Accidental ingestion of quicklime desiccant

1. Mothers should not panic and do not rush to the hospital.

2. Give your baby water or milk immediately. There is a simple way to control the amount you drink: take 10 ml per kilogram of body weight, and do not exceed 200 ml, because overdose may cause vomiting.

3. Then send to hospital for treatment.

It is worth emphasizing that quicklime is a very dangerous thing. When it comes into contact with water, it will turn into calcium bicarbonate, a strong alkaline substance that is corrosive. It's terrible! It can easily burn and corrode the mouth or esophagus. If it splashes into the eyes, it will cause damage to the conjunctiva and cornea. In this case, rinse from the nose to the ear with clean water or saline as soon as possible. Rinse for at least 15 minutes and then quickly send to the hospital.

Situation 2: Ingestion of silica gel desiccant

If it is accidentally ingested, mothers do not need to worry too much, because it is another commonly used desiccant, cannot be absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, can be excreted from the body through feces, and is non-toxic to the human body. No special treatment is required after accidental ingestion. Unless the baby has special reactions such as dizziness, vomiting, etc., there is generally no need to seek medical attention.

Situation 3: Ingestion of unmarked desiccant

What should you do if you encounter an unmarked desiccant bag? Moms should pay attention to the form of the ingredients:

1. Quicklime is a white lump that turns into powder when exposed to moisture.

2. Silica gel is a colorless and transparent ball (some are colorful because other chemicals are added. This kind of desiccant is more likely to arouse babies' curiosity, and they look like delicious candies).

Mothers can make their own judgment and then take different approaches to deal with it.

"Hesitant" to say "no" to desiccant

Seeing this, mothers should have some common sense in dealing with this kind of case, but the important thing is to prevent it from happening:

1. Patience. As soon as you get your baby's utensils or food, read the instructions carefully and patiently. Don't let your habits control your actions. There will be prompts for many reuse information.

2. Be careful. Carefully check your baby’s things for any “parts” that may cause harm, such as desiccant, and throw them away without hesitation.

3. Perseverance. There are many things that happen by accident, but may harm the baby, so mothers should keep a clear mind and fight against "desiccant"!

4. Pay attention. Pay attention to desiccant-like items in your life and keep them in mind.

5. Pictophonetic character. When babies have a certain ability to distinguish, they must be made to understand what they cannot put into their mouths, even if it is placed in a bag of delicious food.
