How to cultivate children's self-care ability?

After a child grows up to a certain stage, he needs to live independently, and independent living requires the child to have the ability to take care of himself. However, modern young people are usually busy with work and are often unable to take care of their children. Most of them are taken care of by grandparents. Many of the ways in which the elderly take care of babies are unscientific educational methods. So how can we cultivate children's self-care ability?

Although parents all know that their children need to be able to take care of themselves in order to live independently in the future. However, modern parents, especially mothers, do not know how to be good to their child because they only have one child in the family. They want to do everything for their child, as if this is the only way to express their love for their child. As a result, they forget their educational responsibilities - to train children's self-care abilities, and let them learn to do things on their own from an early age without relying on others.

1. Parents must be aware of cultivating their children's self-care ability.

There are two main reasons why parents lack the awareness of cultivating their children's self-care ability. On the one hand, they feel sorry for their children and don't want them to "suffer" for fear that they might accidentally bump or get hurt. On the other hand, parents are afraid of trouble. Some parents told me that when they have time to teach their children to do things, they just do it for them. A child's self-care ability and sense of responsibility are closely linked. If a child's parents do not give proper education and training when the child needs to be self-care, then the child will lose the ability to be a human being and will not be able to appreciate the sense of responsibility towards others, including his parents, based on his existing experience. The boy must have thought that since his parents could do everything for him, they could naturally handle this anxiety and he didn't need to pay any attention to his parents' anxiety. In fact, this parenting style that completely ignores children's self-care ability harms both the children and the parents themselves.

2 To cultivate children's self-care ability, we should start by letting them learn to do housework.

When parents are training their children's self-care abilities, in addition to training their children to manage their own daily lives, they should also place special emphasis on training their children to do housework. For example, let the children make breakfast, wash socks, get milk, buy things, etc. Parents should be patient when asking their children to do housework, and children who take the initiative to help with housework should be encouraged. Parents should also let their children understand that it is not enough to just let them do housework, but rather they should cultivate their psychological qualities of independence, diligence, strength, and responsibility, as well as exercise their self-care ability.

3 Parents should focus on encouragement and affirmation for what their children do.

Because children are young, have a limited level of understanding, do not consider things carefully, and have little strength, it is inevitable that some mistakes will occur in the process of doing things. Adults should not blame children for this, let alone punish them, but should first encourage them for what they do right. When children make mistakes, we should help them analyze the reasons and find the problems so as to improve their operating skills and level. This method of education can not only train children's self-care ability, but also greatly enhance children's self-confidence, which will have a positive effect on promoting children's physical and mental development.
