Can I continue to wean my baby if I feel uncomfortable weaning?

Milk powder is the food that babies need the most. They need to eat a lot of milk powder at almost every meal to meet their body's needs. There are many brands of milk powder, and each brand focuses on different nutritional aspects. Therefore, it is very troublesome to choose, which gives parents a headache. Some parents switch between different milk powders for convenience, but problems may arise. For example, if the baby is uncomfortable with the milk powder, can they continue to switch?

Some mothers think that the so-called milk switching is the conversion between different brands of milk powder, but this is not entirely true. Even if it is the same brand of formula milk, milk powder between different stages, the same brand and the same stage but different origins are all considered as milk switching, and switching from breast milk to formula feeding is also considered as milk switching. Mothers who are switching milk should pay special attention.

Almost every baby will experience milk switching. Some babies switch from breast milk to formula milk, some switch at different stages of the same brand of milk powder, and some switch between different brands.

The baby's digestive system is not fully developed, and it takes some time to adapt to the digestion of different foods. Therefore, mothers must be careful not to change the baby's milk powder frequently.

1. Precautions for weaning

1. When changing milk, you should follow a gradual process and not rush it.

2. The frequency of bowel movements may increase/decrease during the weaning period, which varies from person to person, so parents need to observe patiently.

3. Avoid changing milk supply when the baby is sick, has diarrhea, or has eczema before receiving vaccinations, as this will increase the risk of discomfort to the baby.

4. Do not add new complementary foods during the weaning period. Avoid adding burden to your baby's stomach.

Conditions during weaning

The most common ones are diarrhea, constipation and allergies.

Diarrhea: Generally, the most serious symptom during milk transition is diarrhea. At this time, we need to see how serious the diarrhea is. If it is mild, you can reduce the addition of new milk powder slightly, but if it is serious, you can temporarily stop adding new milk powder. However, when the diarrhea condition improves, you can try to change the milk powder again one week after the improvement. However, if you change again, the proportion of new milk powder added should be reduced appropriately, and the conversion time should be doubled than the original time.

Constipation: Some babies may suffer from constipation. If the milk powder is not too concentrated, you can increase the baby's water intake appropriately; and for babies over 6 months old, you can add prune puree and water to the baby to drink.
