My 3-year-old child cannot speak clearly

My 3-year-old child cannot speak clearly

Babies start to imitate their parents' speech at around eight months old. Their pronunciation is not accurate at first, but through continuous practice, their pronunciation becomes clearer and clearer. Some parents discovered after sending their babies to kindergarten that their three-year-old children could not speak clearly, and their speech was much more vague than that of other children. Why is this? If parents are worried, they can take their children to the hospital for a check-up. If the child does not have any disease, it may be a problem of developmental immaturity.

1. What to do if a three-year-old child cannot speak clearly

1. Pay attention to the quality and quantity of training, don't overdo it

Choose appropriate teaching materials. Teaching materials that are too difficult or too easy will not arouse children's interest. Children's patience is limited, so the amount should not be too much or too difficult, and the training time should not be too long.

2. Communicate as much as possible and interact well with your children

Listen to your children patiently anytime and anywhere, listen to what they say, and give them praise as much as possible; the topics of conversation with your children should be as close to their level and experience as possible.

3. Use games to improve learning interest

For example, use nursery rhymes, children's songs, and singing to help children with vocal skills; play vocal games, guess the sound, or auditory memory games; use reading books and pictures to improve children's concentration, expand their cognitive horizons, and increase their oral vocabulary.

If a 3-year-old baby still can't speak much, it means that he has problems such as delayed language development. At this time, you need to take the baby to the hospital for examination to understand the root cause of his inability to speak. If the problem is delayed language development, parents should spend more time guiding and teaching their baby to learn to speak in daily life.

2. What are the reasons for the baby's non-standard pronunciation?

1. Congenital physical defects

For example, congenital cleft lip and palate, missing or deformed teeth, short frenulum, etc.

2. Caused by acquired diseases

For example, inaccurate pronunciation can be caused by a neurological disease that causes uncoordinated movement of the vocal organs, hearing loss that causes the baby to not be able to hear the sounds and imitate correctly, or brain development disorders.

3. Immature development

Babies under 3 years old have a gradually increasing vocabulary. They want to use language to express their thoughts and often have inaccurate pronunciation, especially some more complex sounds. This is because they have just learned to speak, and the language center and vocal organs in their brain are not yet mature, or they are affected by the language environment during the process of learning to speak.

4. Too many short sentences

The child speaks intermittently and has difficulty expressing himself clearly, so the parents let the child communicate in short sentences, which seems to improve the child's stuttering. But this is only a temporary solution and not a permanent cure. If children use short sentences too much to communicate, once it becomes a habit, it will be difficult to change.

Moreover, human thinking is coherent, so people are logical and coherent when they speak. Children's thinking and language expression abilities promote each other's development. Communicating in short sentences is not conducive to the development of children's language abilities and will also affect their thinking development.
