Neonatal jaundice is a very common disease, which is mainly divided into physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice. The main reason for jaundice in newborns is bile stasis caused by poor bile excretion. In fact, there is no need to worry too much. If it is physiological jaundice, it will disappear automatically soon. So don’t worry if jaundice occurs. First, determine whether it is physiological jaundice. So is a jaundice value of over ten considered very high? 1. Neonatal jaundice standards The normal value of neonatal jaundice is based on serum bilirubin as a reference indicator. It is normal as long as it does not exceed 204μmol/L (12mg/dl) for full-term infants and 255μmol/L (15mg/dl) for premature infants. Children with physiological jaundice have no appetite or mental state except yellowing of the skin. The symptoms will generally disappear automatically within a month. Children with pathological jaundice not only have skin changes, but also usually cry, make a fuss, and refuse to drink milk. In this case, parents must take their children to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible, otherwise nuclear jaundice may be caused. 2. Light therapy Phototherapy is an adjunctive therapy for the treatment of hyperbilirubinemia in children using fluorescent light. The ultraviolet light used in phototherapy changes bilirubin into a form that is more easily excreted from the body through your baby's urine. 3. Exchange blood therapy If the jaundice in children is severe or the bilirubin level continues to rise after phototherapy, the baby will need exchange transfusion therapy. Exchange transfusion therapy can effectively reduce bilirubin, replace sensitized red blood cells and alleviate anemia, but it should be noted that exchange transfusion therapy may produce some adverse reactions in the process of treating pediatric jaundice, so this operation requires strict control by professional physicians. 4. Medication Jaundice in children can be treated with drugs, and commonly used drugs in clinical practice are liver enzyme inducers and intravenous immunoglobulin. For treatment with traditional Chinese medicine, Junchenhuang (Coptis chinensis, Phellodendron chinense, Phellodendron amurense, Gardenia jasminoides, Junchen, and Rhubarb) or Junchenhao decoction can be taken orally. 5. Other treatments There are other measures you can take to help your baby reduce the symptoms of jaundice. For example: Make sure your baby gets enough breast milk or formula so that he or she has more bowel movements. |
