What to do if your child falls on his head

What to do if your child falls on his head

Children tend to be more naughty, so it is inevitable that they will encounter some bumps and bruises in many situations. However, the head is a very important and fragile part of the human body. Some children fall and hit their heads, but many parents do not take it seriously, leading to serious consequences. Today I will introduce to parents what parents should do when their children fall and hit their heads?

1. What to do if your child falls seriously on his head

If your child is in a very serious condition such as unconsciousness, convulsions, or inability to move limbs, do not move the child at will or send the child to the hospital on your own. Instead, call 120 immediately to contact an ambulance!

2. What to do if a child falls on his head but the injury is not serious

If the situation is not that serious, you can first perform the following 3 steps of emergency treatment.

1. Calm your child down

When a child falls, don't panic or get excited, otherwise it will make the child feel more scared and uneasy, and cry even harder. Don’t be like Dr. D’s relative and immediately hug the child to avoid using too much force and causing unnecessary harm! Calmly comfort the child not to be afraid and let him calm down as soon as possible. After he calms down, you can ask him some questions, such as what day is today, which city do you live in, etc., to see if his thinking and consciousness are still clear.

2. Apply ice to the bump as soon as possible

If a lump appears, don't worry, even if it swells up quickly, as it's usually just damage to your scalp. Never massage your child's swelling, as that will only make the hematoma worse. It is recommended to apply ice to the child's lump immediately. You can put a few ice cubes and some water in a plastic bag, seal it, and press it on the lump for 20 minutes. Let your child rest for a few minutes, then apply the ice for another 20 minutes. This will not only relieve pain, but will also significantly reduce the size of the lump and promote its healing as soon as possible.

3. Don’t let your child sleep within an hour

Many children who have been injured will want to take a nap, but in order to better observe their condition, it is best not to let them sleep at the beginning. You can show him his favorite cartoons or take him to buy delicious food to dispel his sleepiness.
