Newborns make piglet grunting sounds

Sometimes mothers will find that their newborns make piggy-like grunting sounds. At this time, parents will be nervous and afraid that their children will have some problems. There are many reasons for this situation. For example, the child’s central nervous system is not yet fully developed. It is normal for this situation to occur occasionally. Of course, we must also be vigilant. If the child has this situation frequently, he should seek medical attention in time.

Newborns make piglet grunting sounds

There are many reasons why newborns make noises when they sleep. The most common reason is that the baby's central nervous system and respiratory system are not yet fully developed. Occasionally, they will twitch suddenly or hum a few times when they sleep. If this only happens occasionally, it is normal. When the baby grows up, there will be no sound.

But there are some situations that mothers also need to identify. For example, if the baby catches a cold and has a runny nose, it may be caused by the mucus flowing back into the throat. Or if the baby has a sore throat or gets angry, it may cause the baby to make noises while sleeping. In this case, you need to seek medical attention in time.

Is it normal for a newborn to make noises while sleeping?

It is normal for newborns to make noises while sleeping. As long as it does not affect their lives and there are no abnormalities in other aspects, parents do not need to worry too much. When a newborn baby makes noises while sleeping, it may be because he is in an active sleep state. At this time, parents should not think that the baby is awake because of the noises he makes and disturb him. Parents can understand their baby's sleeping status so as to take better care of the baby.

According to the different degrees of wakefulness and sleep of newborn babies, they are divided into 6 states of consciousness: two sleep states - quiet sleep (deep sleep) and active sleep (light sleep); three wakefulness states - quiet wakefulness, active wakefulness and crying; the other is a transitional form between sleep and wakefulness, that is, the drowsy state.

(1) Quiet sleeping state: The baby's facial muscles are relaxed and the eyes are closed. Except for occasional startle and very slight mouth movement, there is no other movement in the body. The breathing is very even. The baby is in complete rest.

(2) Active sleep state: The eyes are usually closed, only occasionally opening briefly. The eyelids sometimes tremble, and the eyeballs can often be seen moving rapidly under the eyelids. Breathing is irregular and slightly faster than during quiet sleep. There is some occasional movement of the arms, legs, and entire body. The face often shows funny expressions, such as grimacing, smiling and frowning. Sometimes sucking or chewing movements occur. This active sleep state is usually maintained before awakening. The above two types of sleep time each account for about half.

(3) Drowsy state: usually occurs just after waking up or before falling asleep. The eye is half open and half closed, the eyelid appears to flicker, and the eyeball may roll upward before closing. His eyes become dull and his reactions become slow. Sometimes smile, frown or purse your lips. Often accompanied by mild startle. When your baby is in this sleeping state, try to ensure that he sleeps quietly. Do not disturb him by mistakenly thinking that "the baby is awake" or "needs to be fed" because of some of his small movements or expressions.
