How to help your baby pass gas quickly

How to help your baby pass gas quickly

For many babies, bloating often occurs about one month after birth. Although baby bloating will gradually disappear or decrease as the baby grows, new parents don’t know how to help the baby when they encounter this situation. In fact, new parents can learn some skills. So, how can we help baby pass gas quickly?

The so-called flatulence, as the name suggests, means that there is gas left in the baby's digestive system, causing discomfort or abdominal pain to the baby, and making the baby feel full, which in turn affects the baby's eating. In severe cases, it can also cause vomiting. The discomfort caused by gas is also often a factor that worsens colic. Therefore, it is recommended that new parents do gas-relieving exercises for their babies at least three times a day to prevent bloating.

Swallowing too much air

It is recommended that mothers with too much milk use a breast pump to suck out some of the milk from their swollen breasts before each breastfeeding and then feed the baby.

When feeding your baby with a bottle, if the nipple hole is not of the appropriate size or the bottle is tilted, air will be inhaled into the baby's stomach through the gap in the nipple. It is recommended that the size of the bottle mouth hole should be appropriate to the baby's age, and the baby's head should be placed at 45 degrees, with the bottle tilted accordingly so that the nipple is always full of milk. It is best to choose an "anti-colic bottle" for your baby.

Whether it is breast milk or formula, don't let your baby eat too much. Eating too much will only be counterproductive. "If you want your child to be safe, keep him three parts hungry and cold" is also a concept generally advocated by pediatricians.

Food causes

Breastfeeding: Mothers should check the food they eat and it is recommended to reduce foods that easily cause bloating and sugar intake.

Foods that cause flatulence: High-starch, beans, or spicy foods may be the culprits of your baby's flatulence. Try to reduce these foods in your diet to see if your baby's symptoms will improve.

Limit your sugar intake: If breast milk contains too much sugar, the sugar will ferment excessively in the baby's stomach, which can easily cause the baby to have intestinal bloating (also including loose stools, frequent stools, lots of foam, and a strong sour taste).

Formula feeding: Try to choose lactose-free, soy-free or hypoallergenic formula milk, which may help reduce your child's tummy ache.

Vicious cycle of crying

To avoid a vicious cycle, you can try laying your baby flat and gently massaging his tummy in a clockwise direction to help him expel gas. On the one hand, it can relieve abdominal distension, and on the other hand, the baby's attention will be diverted because of the comfort.

Baby indigestion

Some mothers think that it is best for the baby to go to sleep directly after eating. In fact, it is not good for the baby's intestinal digestion to sleep immediately after eating. Burping the baby after a meal can play a good role in promoting digestion and preventing bloating. Speaking of the time to burp my baby, I used to burp her immediately after she finished feeding, but I found that she would spit up milk easily, which made it more troublesome than bloating.

After feeding, I let the baby lie flat in my arms at a certain angle (about 10 degrees) and wait for about 10 minutes, and then burp him. After doing this, the baby is less likely to spit up milk, and the bloating problem is also well alleviated.
