Newborn baby's eye mucus is a lot and yellow and sticky?

Eye mucus is more common than you might imagine in real life. People of all ages will have eye mucus. It is normal for most people to have a lot of eye mucus. However, if a newborn has a lot of yellow and sticky eye mucus, parents should pay attention to it. It may be caused by getting a fever or conjunctivitis. If you want to know the specific cause, it is best to go to the hospital for a check-up.

Newborn baby's eye mucus is yellow and sticky

1. Getting angry

The most common cause is getting angry. A lot of yellow and sticky eye mucus is one of the symptoms of getting angry. Generally, mothers usually think that this kind of getting angry is caused by eating milk powder. In fact, there are many reasons for babies to get angry, and it is normal for most babies to get angry.

Solution:

According to mothers' experience, the best thing for babies to do when they have a sore throat is to let them drink more water, especially when the weather is very dry. When the baby reaches a certain age, you can also feed him some vegetables and fruits, but avoid spicy or fried foods as complementary foods.

2. Congenital tear duct obstruction usually occurs 1-2 weeks after the baby is born. It looks like the baby's eyes are tearful, but it is actually what doctors call neonatal dacryocystitis, which is caused by obstruction of the lacrimal and nasolacrimal ducts.

3-4 weeks after birth, the baby's tear glands gradually develop and mature. After the baby is one month old, you should observe whether the baby has tearful eyes, increased eye mucus, etc.

The tears of a two-month-old baby gradually increase. It is normal for the baby to shed tears when crying at this time. If the baby has tears even when not crying, or both eyes are always watery, then parents should be alert, especially if one eye has tears and the other eye does not, as this indicates that there is something abnormal.

Solution: The baby's bathtub and washbasin should be disinfected regularly, and towels, handkerchiefs and toilet paper should be used exclusively. Use saline cotton swabs frequently to clean the baby's eye secretions to prevent infection.

Nose massage method:

If there is purulent secretion in the baby's eyes, parents can press the tip of their index finger on the area between the baby's nose root and the inner canthus of the eye, and squeeze towards the eye. Pus can be seen flowing out from the corner of the eye. Wipe it clean for the baby.

3. Bacterial infection

If the baby not only has a lot of yellow eye mucus, but also has red and congested eyes, this may be because bacteria have invaded the lacrimal sac, multiplied and festered inside, and the pus fills the entire lacrimal sac and cannot be excreted, so it accumulates in the corners of the eyes. There is a possibility of complication of keratitis, in which the cornea may turn from black to white and form white spots. If not treated in time, it will affect the baby's vision development.

Solution: If this happens, do not use eye drops without authorization, and go to the hospital for treatment immediately.

Newborn care: what to do if your newborn has a lot of eye mucus

1. How to deal with conjunctival inflammation : Topical antibiotic eye drops and eye ointment can improve symptoms, and conjunctival irrigation can help subside inflammation.

Before applying eye drops, the child's eyes should be cleared of secretions. If the baby also has symptoms such as dry stool, yellow urine, thick and greasy tongue coating, etc., Chinese medicine that clears heat and fire, and helps digestion and relieves stagnation can be used for treatment.

Give your baby plenty of water, and pay attention to the effects of the milk powder on your baby's digestive function. Cleaning your baby's hands and trimming both adults and babies' nails regularly can reduce the chance of bacterial infection of the eyes.

2. How to deal with neonatal dacryocystitis : Massage the lacrimal sac and nasolacrimal duct from the root of the nose to the tip of the nose to increase the pressure in the duct and promote the rupture of the residual membrane. When bacterial infection occurs, anti-infection treatment is given.

When massage and conservative treatment are ineffective, probing can be performed after anti-infection treatment.

3. How to deal with gonococcal pyoceratosis : Usually when a newborn is born, the hospital will use 1% silver nitrate solution to drop into the eyes to reduce the infection rate of the newborn, but the chance of newborns infected with this disease increases if they are delivered in informal hospitals.

Penicillin is effective for this disease. To avoid cross infection, you should go to a regular hospital for systematic treatment to avoid delaying the disease.
